odd game last night, seemed like Bizarro night.

The Flyers usually control the game but lose because of goaltending, this was reversed.

The Islanders fans cheering for a good 10 seconds when Talbot was down was a disgrace. Flyers fans get a bad rap, just brutal. The Isles announcers up until that hit were doing a good job, they showed the hit a couple times and said it was clearly a chest shot and that was area Staois hit Talbot. Just horrible.

I am taking nothing away from Bob because he played great the last two games, very impressive. That said he played great against the 14th and 15th seeded teams in the East. Teams you gotta beat, sadly you could argue the only reason they won both was Bob.

The Giroux line has been a mess for 4 games now. I have noticed Giroux in the Flyers zone more then the offensive zone, they just seem to be in a funk and Jagr looks like he's skating with the weight vest on, they need to pick it up.

Regardless the Flyers are winning which is great. If they have that kind of effort against a very solid Preds team Saturday they will get run out of the building.

Go Flyers

Jagr's injury/health seems to have the Giroux line way off. He simply doesn't look like himself, and it seems to be throwing everyone else off by a hair. On top of that, though, they haven't been anywhere nearly as dogged at controlling the puck in the offensive zone. G seems to feel like he has to pass more than just ripping a shot off.

i would be very pleased if the flyers could add luke schenn, he adds an element that we are sorely missing. if the price is vanRiemsdyk, i would require more than just schenn coming back. i would want either grabovski, gunnarson or a 1st round pick. i'd rather not trade jvr, but this team has a much better track record acquiring forwards than dmen.
- flyerscup2011

As of last night I didn't know much about Luke Schenn but after talking to Toronto fans and doing some research of my own, my guess is it would be a JvR for Schenn swap. It is basically trading needs of players in pretty much the same positions in their career.

Burke would probably rather trade for Ryan, Getzlaff or Perry. JvR is his fall back if he can't get one of those three.

McGuire on XM said JVR for schenn makes sense given the respective orgs needs and the value of ea player. I would want a dman that offers a more complete- meaning offensive- game. the flyers are getting little from the point other than some playmaking and they'll need more come plyoff time.

I understand the need for a so-called shutdown guy, but plyrs like gill or zanon wouldn't cost a JVR.

Do the rookies get to do stuff in the skills competition? If so, Couturier should be sent out to bust up some targets in the accuracy shooting

And to that regard, if I'm trading JvR (and I wouldn't), I'd be asking for Cam Fowler.

I have lost all respect for that douche...

Here is a snip from this latest "masterpiece" :

STAT WATCH: Speaking of Timonen, here’s a random stat: Timonen has a better points-per-game rate (0.512) over his career than forward James van Riemsdyk (0.510).

I wouldn't be devastated if they traded JvR for Schenn. It's not a horrible trade for either side. But, like several others, there are physical vet defensemen available for less.

I'd love to have Fowler. If I'm the Ducks he's one of the few I don't discuss in a trade.

Say we do get Schenn tho, lots of you guys are saying he hasn't broken out yet... so what does that mean for this year? Obviously he'd be an improvement over MAB or Lilja, but do we still need to add a vet back there for a playoff run? Say Schenn to replace MAB and cheap rental that would upgrade over Lilja?

It seems to me as Flyers fans are simply basing this trade off of what Schenn is right now. Everything involved in this trade is about the potential of what they can be.

I openly admitted I didn't know anything about Schenn but after reading up on what the professionals have to say about him and doing some research on him, it seems as though his potential is through the roof (like JvR) and he is struggling this season (like JvR).

I think you are underestimating Schenn's game. He's not strictly a defensive defenseman. He has a good shot, and can skate, in addition to being physical . He's also young and signed to a great cap hit.

I'm not crazy about a straight trade, but it wouldn't be an awful trade.

Agreed on both points.

And the Ducks GM said only Koivu and Selanne were untouchable. Although, I assume Fowler and Perry would be next in line on that list.

Someone trading for JVR now is someone hoping to underpay for an injured player who will be more use to them in the future than this year, not someone willing to overpay for a piece that helps them mightily this year.

Adding Schenn leaves enough room to add a cheap vet, if need be.

Unless the well is poisoned, I'd have Ryan and Getzlaff on that list, as well. But yeah, Perry and Fowler would be the two guys that I'd need to get bowled over to consider moving.

Potential for potential seems to always have you wanting more in a deal for your team then you should get. (not you but in general) That seems to be what is happening here because Flyers fans are saying they would want more than just Schenn for JvR and Toronto fans are saying they would want more than just JvR for Schenn.

It's just a familiarity with the player on your roster

Burke traded two top ten picks for Phil Kessel.
