That's what Burke trading Schenn & Kadri for JvR and a second would be.

yep. they would then be in the mkt for a pwr forward having traded JVR who now would be healthy and going all versteeg.
- isaiah520

JVR is going to be a very good player. No doubt about it in my mind. I'd rather be in the market for a Power Forward then a top pair defenseman.

Pronger's status is important, I'm just wondering if Kimmo comes back for one more year. He'll be 37 in March, a great player, if he retires it frees up $6.3 million in cap room.
- ravishingone

I have no doubt Kimmo will play next year and fulfill his contract.

NHL GM's don't do favors for another team when he's trying to position his team for a Cup run.

which one of those teams was in a position to win a cup last year?

Twice, I'm still waiting for the proof that I wouldn't make the deal for the first overall pick?

if the team wants him bad enough, yea.
- JoeRussomanno

I suppose. But it seems a bit risky to me for Burke to trade for him and then he has off season (or sooner) surgery. You never know how well or long it takes a guy to come back from that.

with their goaltending situation it really didn't seem last year like they were to me.

Why not. They went to the Finals the year before. If Holmgren didn't think they had a legitimate shot at the Cup, he wouldn't have made the Versteeg deal.

Over the summer, both Kadri and Schenn were untouchable. Both were picked in the top 6 of their draft classes within the past few years. Both are very good youngsters with loads of potential. I can't see Burke trading both for JvR and a 2nd.

This is smoke....Holmer just allowing his buddy Burkie to use this situation to pressure the Ducks.

They did a serious swan dive in the second half. That and they had a healthy Pronger going into the playoffs, last year his health wasn't certain and the team looked a whole lot different with him out.

Not for JVR & a 2nd, but JVR & another proven piece maybe, only we don't have a young D man of that ilk to offer

I don't think they have soured on JvR at all. I think that Burke loves him, and is actively trying to get him. Even if you love a player, if another GM comes in and makes a pitch, you hear him out.

It sure seemed that Burke wanted to bring in one of his old Duck players, but apparently, he's shifted to JvR.

my own observation and research on what he could become vs what I would consider a top pairing guy. rated as a 2nd pairing shutdown guy who would be valuable in pk situations but I don't see a role for him on the pp, which I would expect out of a top pairing guy.
