sorry, that was eshake. the ads on the iPad prevent me from responding to posts on the top of the thread when it gets skewed, so I lost track on that one. |

I have to give Richards credit there, he did the right thing for his teammate. - stveshdy
Except that it was totally the wrong time to do it, up by one goal in the third period. The four minutes of minors he picked up resulted in the tying goal and his team lost a point out of the game as a result.
Gotta pick your spots. There is still another game to go between the teams this season and then six next season -- have a long memory and pick an appropriate time.

JVR is what 21 yrs old??? The kid will be a monster in a few years. So he's had an off year and been injured a bit. The Flyers shouldn't be thinking about trading this guy, especially straight up for Schenn. Size, speed, and hands... they don't come like that too often. - flyguy12

If they trade for Schenn, do you feel they are out of the running for Suter (who will UFA) or Weber (RFA)? Trading JVR is a pretty big piece, if JVR is traded, I would have to be absolutely blown away to trade B. Schenn or Coots.
I would probably like to see Carle resigned. Carle, Coburn, Meszy, Schenn, and Bourdon/Guftsy is a pretty good top 5 all under the age of 28. Certainly hope Kimmo and Pronger come back, but some pretty impressive defensive depth. - ravishingone
They could get Schenn and add Suter in the offseason if they really wanted to. Obviously that would depend heavily on Pronger's status |

Young player, with a ton of potential, on a team with a fairly deep defense. It's not like trading JvR for Jim Vandermeer. - Jsaquella
Flyers will only create a hole if this is done straight up. Huge holes to fill this summer if they are minus Jagr and JVR going into next year. Read doesn't do it for me yet. |

He was better in Chicago than he was in Philly or Toronto. He got sent here as damaged goods, which I still think was a favor homer did for burke. - JoeRussomanno
It was just before the trade deadline. Why would Holmgren do a favor for Burke? What would Holmgren's motivation to make a trade at that time be? |

I agree, he was hurt here, (kind of like JVR), maybe JVR would be better off having the surgery & start fresh, as playing hurt is bringing a lot of people down to want to see leave, (maybe more so) |

I just checked his page on NHL.com. Interesting that he's played in 29 games for Canada internationally and has only 3G and 2A in that span. Not big numbers in Juniors either. Definitely not a lot of offensive upside here I think. - rockychocbill
no, that's not who he is and that's why I ratchet down the JVR for schenn straight up discussion |

There are holes every off season to fill. Make no mistake about Read, he is a player. How does a 25 year old Rookie who is going to score 25 goals, has blazing speed, and can play in all situations and on any line, not do it for you?

seems fair to me, who knows maybe homer could do even better than that - flyerscup2011
If Homer does as good as that, he should immediately have a statue built of him and placed on top of city hall.
I'd doubt that Burke moves both Schenn and Kadri without getting much more than Jvr and a 2nd.
Would you trade Couturier and JvR for James Neal and a second? |

Same discussion we had earlier today Bill, on why the Flyers didn't go after Staios for the hit on Talbot.

Pronger's status is important, I'm just wondering if Kimmo comes back for one more year. He'll be 37 in March, a great player, if he retires it frees up $6.3 million in cap room.

What summer doesn't have holes to fill?
Also, most indications, at least from reputable reporters, are that it'd be Schenn +, not straight up. I'd love to get more than Schenn, myself. But a straight up trade is not a horrible disaster. |

This is my thinking. Plus, would JVR even pass a trade physical in TO right now? |

Well as Jsaq has been saying they have been friends for 30 years or so, people do favors for their friends in the workplace, this wouldn't be the first time. His motivation may have been some kind of handshake promise for something down the line. |

No, but tempting only because Neal is already a proven goal scorer, but not with Couturier, no |

yep. they would then be in the mkt for a pwr forward having traded JVR who now would be healthy and going all versteeg. |

NHL GM's don't do favors for another team when he's trying to position his team for a Cup run.

Not necessarily. They would be out of the running to add them at the TDL, but they could still find a way to get involved in the summer for one of them, if so inclined.
If they do decide to pursue Suter, Carle's a goner. |
