I don't want to see him traded either. But if it's a deal that makes the Flyers better, go for it.

Schenn could well be a top pair defenseman someday soon. He's physical, he's got a good hard right handed shot, decent mobility, and a rep as a good leadership guy.

Getting him w i feel about liljain a JvR trade is not the end of the world. I'd like to see the Flyers get more, but we shall see what happens.

more browser BS...I swear when somebody posts something that skews the font or whatever it called, the iPad is fracked.

I not only want more, I want a potential game changing dman, just like JVR showed he could be a game changing forward in last yrs plyoffs. there's no rush for us...and you know how I feel about lilja

Even though I beat the drum for Homer to get Beauchemin, if they went the young route by getting LSchenn I'd be ok considering they don't blow up the team to do it.

Another thing I was thinking and wondering what you guys thought, perhaps homer has an IOU out on Burke for that little move he pulled on us with Versteeg last year, and this whole ordeal for schenn is simply a matter of one of mine for one of yours and not some major blockbuster package. Any thoughts?

I think that the 30+ year friendship between Burke and Holmgren is a bigger factor than Versteeg...I just think Burkie loves JvR and is willing to move a kid that he saw as untouchable to make it happen

Don't see the Versteeg deal having any impact on this.

Schenn could be a top pair shutdown type guy. That can change games. Ask the Devils how important Scott Stevens was.

Not that Schenn will be Stevens, but he's got a load of potential.

What happened to the Flyers plan of getting bigger in their forward group to match the Bostons and the Rangers? I understand this gives us more physicality on the backend. JVR has played soft this year, and really he has looked bad. Just not ready to give up on him for a L Schenn, A young player who is on the 3rd pairing of a bubble team. This is just panicky right now and I wish it would go away

If you concluding that I've lost patience with JVR, you would be incorrect. Again, if the Flyers make that trade, it's for a reason. One which you won't consider.

Its what I was getting at that these two seem to have a working relationship and it sure seemed like Homer did Burke a favor last year and now its time to return that, maybe. I just hope homer doesn't make a blockbuster move like he did for pronger unless its weber or someone of that level. None of these guys on the downswing of their career where they strangle the cap even after you give them a chunk of ours etc. I was happy they made the Pronger move and don't hold it against them for it. Pronger could still come back and be a force, however the youth movement needs to hold its course. As of right now I feel good about this team's future just hope we don't screw it up.

Young player, with a ton of potential, on a team with a fairly deep defense. It's not like trading JvR for Jim Vandermeer.

I just checked his page on NHL.com. Interesting that he's played in 29 games for Canada internationally and has only 3G and 2A in that span. Not big numbers in Juniors either. Definitely not a lot of offensive upside here I think.

Holmgren was trading for a player that he hoped would add to his team to make a Cup run. And he had to pay what the price was. There wasn't any favors done.

yes. what did happen to the "bigger, faster, stronger" part of the mantra when it comes to our forwards? as long as homer isn't panicky, I'm fine w/ some personal discomfort over this

That and building a team to compete with Boston is starting to look more like a two year plan.

Well, Burke and Holmgren have been good friends since the 1970's. Holmgren worked for Burke in Hartford, and Burkie's son is a Flyers scout. There is a great relationship there, between the two.

In the deal for Versteeg, I think Holmgren's idea at the time was to keep him and have him be a valuable piece going forward. However the lack of a bonus cushion and overage issues with the cap limited that, and the play and availability of the rookies made Versteeg kind of a luxury that the Flyers could spin for other assets.

They might end up getting a good 2nd rounder as a result of the Versteeg deal, so it's not as if they gave up a 1st rounder for nothing.

If they trade for Schenn, do you feel they are out of the running for Suter (who will UFA) or Weber (RFA)? Trading JVR is a pretty big piece, if JVR is traded, I would have to be absolutely blown away to trade B. Schenn or Coots.

I would probably like to see Carle resigned. Carle, Coburn, Meszy, Schenn, and Bourdon/Guftsy is a pretty good top 5 all under the age of 28. Certainly hope Kimmo and Pronger come back, but some pretty impressive defensive depth.

He was better in Chicago than he was in Philly or Toronto. He got sent here as damaged goods, which I still think was a favor homer did for burke.
