Staios hit on Talbot.

Yes. I'm with you. It's hard to tell anything by the replays I saw. Maybe there's a Shanny short film that will show more.

I think 95% of posters have echoed your sentiments. That's the clear way to go. That being said if the JVR for Schenn trade goes down, you will have a faction of people defending it, lauding Holmgren for making a great trade.

That's good to hear. I would hope mostly everyone would want to hold onto JVR.
- LeachHextall27

JVR will be a consistent 30 goal scorer in the NHL. Young kids who are bigger players take time to develop. JVR is obviously trying to play through significant injuries and it's hampering his production.

Well, I guess we'll see how the surgery affects him next season. No need to speculate about it potentially coming back.
- LeachHextall27

Take this for what it's worth, But Holmgren was quoted as saying that JVR doesn't need surgery.

If prongs retires we won't be getting anyone because we will be stuck with his cap hit lol
- griouxmvp2012

only during the off season. during the season he can still "try to return" and be stashed on LTIR like lappy. I could be wrong about this but there are lots of knowledgeable peeps here who will correct me.

FWIW, Tocch said on Twitter today that Berube would be one of his first choices as a head coach if he were GM.

Like I said, FWIW.

Becasue we should judge a trade as a failure right away? Most will give an initial impression of whether they like a trade or not, when it's made. But reasonable people will also retain some objectivity and see how it works out.

I would like to see him score 30 goals in one season first before thinking he can be a consistant 30 goal scorer. Nothing against your thinking Plind.

The replays they showed weren't difinitive. My initial reaction due to Staios elbow seemed like it was up, and Talbot's head snapped back, that the principal point of contact was the head. But maybe it wasn't. Maybe his elbow came up on the follow through, and the point of contact was the chest, and his head just went back from the force. And if they have a replay that shows that the principal point of contact wasnt the head and it was a clean hit. That would explain why there was no fine or suspension.

I understand. I think this was the season before he got injured. He's still on pace for 22 goals right now.

and they will have to defend overpaying for a stay-at-home dman. JVR deserves the return of a dynamic presence on the blueline.

I wish I had that CSN Philly story bookmarked from a week or so ago. Somebody here posted a link to it. The writer described JVR's condition. It is very similar to what my doctor said I have. I have a growth coming off my hip bone. It restricts my range of motion somewhat but it is not painful until the joint bends to far. Tying my right shoe for example is difficult. He said I have a hip replacement in my future. I can still skate if I wanted to but the doc said that would most likely just accelerate the process. It's the reason I stopped playing two years ago. I wasn't able to get a strong enough push on my right side. At least not to my liking.

JVR might not need a hip replacement but he most likely needs to have the growth shaved off at some point. Sometime soon.

Young defenseman also take time to develop. And if, and that's if, they feel that Schenn can develop into a physical tough, top pair defenseman. Then I trade a 30 goal Winger for a 25+ minute a game top pair defenseman, in a heartbeat. Especially with the needs the Flyers have.

JVR was the reward for sitting through a miserable 56 point season, sure every Flyers fan wanted the # 1 pick, but I'm not trading JVR for a guy who might become a first pairing dman. Screw that.
