I agree totally.
I guess you actually have to follow the habs to see that this trade does help the habs in more ways then one rather then sitting back and using stats to conclude that the Flames got the more talented player.

- thebigbird

Actually, stats say that Cammalleri and Bourque have pretty much the same number of goals per game %. Even if Cammalleri had a 39 goals season not long ago.

Goat addressed 3 needs for his team.
Got bigger.
Saved money on the Cap.
Good a draft pick.

Now, he just needs to do this with about 4-5 more players, and we're good.

Flame fans think they won this trade. So....everyone is happy I guess. Seems that AK may have a run for his money as "dumbest Hab" though.

Well that is pretty much how i see it too.
But from what i have read from the so called experts on TSN and such they think Cal won the trade hands down.
Not to mention a number of Burkites from Leaf nation.

If I was a Flames fan, I'd be pissed that they aren't blowing up this team.

Unless they consider Cammalleri is a building block for the future.

I think that they consider their team "on the bubble" as far as the playoffs. Look, you put Cammi with Iginla and he may very well start scoring again. But I don't think it matters as far as the Habs are concerned. They needed the cap space, he wasn't happy nor was he performing, and he's small. I don't see the downside from the Habs perspective, regardless of whether Cammi scores.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was a very sought after commodity at the trade deadline.

This is what I was talking about yesterday. We got basically got Kostitsyn 2.0 on our hands. He's signed at 3. for another 3-4 years, and we aren't getting Kostitsyn for that cheap. So there's two ways to go here:

1) Re-sign Kostitsyn and have him play with Eller and Bourque as a third line with size that can be as effective as a second line when they wake up. (For this to happen, they need a real no. 1 center in exchange for DD or Plekanec somehow)

2) Don't re-sign Kostitsyn(or trade him) and nothing has really changed other than gaining Cammalleri's cap-space.

Either way, I can't see how we lose on this since we gain cap-space to go get another bigger player (really, at this point, who cares if he's D or FWD).

Someone could use him for a deep playoff run...
like AKost, we can resign in the off season.

Without question. But I say we keep him. That's done then. Next?

Sure. I guess someone could use him. Don't see why anyone would want Campoli at that money. Or Kabs for his money.

Someone is going to look at Gomez and think he can be saved with a change of scenery, plus your getting a 7 mil cap hit for much less money which will be attractive to teams with a low cap number.

Habs: Travis, wanna take a shot at a playoff run with another team?

Moen: Yeah, that would be nice.

Habs: Good, good. We really like the way you play and would like to strike a deal with you next summer.

Moen: Get it done.

Pierre Larouche was my favorite Hab, so that wouldn't work. Hmm, I'm starting to think that I am drawn to a certain type of player.
