Agreed, but if they trade JvR for Schenn and waive Shelley, that allows for them to bring in a forward as well.
- Flyers2821

Well, once we give JvR away to strengthen anther position, we can't take that back. Who out there in the league can replace JvR for the long term?

He doesn't look great, but he doesn't seem to be groggy or "off"

- Jsaquella

He hit Comeau with a blindside hit last year that caused a concussion so when he says the league is trying to get rid of hits like that, he is just as guilty as accusing the same act.

I have to see a replay on the hit tonight. I was there live and it was definitely a jarring hard hit but he didn't miss a shift.

Personally, I think the offense is in a strong enough position long term to sacrifice that to improve their defense for the long term. After next season you could be looking at just Coburn ad Meszaros as legit dmen. Prongers career could be over, timonen could be gone and Carle could be gone. Can't let that happen.

If you acquire Schenn, your looking at Coburn, Mez and Schenn here for a good length of time which is encouraging.

Offensively this teams loaded with talent. Not to mention, this regime seems to be able to fill the void of offensive players leaving the organization. They have been at the top of the league in scoring for years now and every year we start the season thinking they don't have enough because they traded away Carter and Richards or let Gagne go.

I have to say, I am impressed an Islanders fan even exists let alone is arguing Talbots comments at 1:45am. Kudos!

Saw the replay and Staois hit him in the upper chest. Talbot has played dead before and he did it again tonight. Not trying to incite everyone but that play aggravated the hell out of me tonight. Refs let him sit there for 20 seconds and THEN blow the whistle when we are about to take it into the offensive zone. He doesn't miss a shift and I'd be very surprised if he is injured.

I hope he isn't.

Have season tickets and I'm jet lagged. Still on West Coast time. Talbot running around like an ass goes back to his pittsburgh days. He is a big reason why that Isles/Pens game got out of control last season. He concussed Comeau, and liked to play a physical game. But when he was challenged, he ran away and hid and when he got hit, he played dead like he did tonight.

Staois definitely nailed him and Talbots head got jarred. But if he was seriously hurt, then the Flyers medical staff didn't follow protocol with this new concussion rule.

Bottom line, this loss hurts a ton because we outplayed you most of the game and NEVER get a bounce or a break. Missed calls, Nabakov doing his Dipietro impression on the 2nd goal and Bobrovsky was terrific.

I think we overrated the offense based on how well Giroux has been doing. I think we underrate what JvR brings to this team. Right now Giroux has cooled off slightly and because of this, the games seem rather tight. Too tight if you ask me. Now, it could help that the defense tighten up a bit but you can never have enough scoring.

The last two seasons have been very hard to take especially with a silent owner and a real chance they may be gone after the 2015 season.

Take me forever to explain it but yea, tonight's loss mattered very much to Isles and fans.

That's supposedly what the Flyers asked for, and when Burke didn't get back to them they made the other moves. But, Burke and Homer have been friends for 35 years or so. Burke's son is a Flyers' scout, so you know that had Burke even been willing to seriously discuss that move, Homer would have listened.

EDIT: If it is a 1 for 1 deal, I'd expect Schenn or Couturier to slide up and play a bigger role.

If Bobby Ryan is being shopped around by the Ducks, the Flyers should jump all over that.  How can you not love his game as a Flyers fan?  He'd be great in Philly.  Local kid too that grew up a Flyers fan.  The asking price may be high but the Flyers have enough depth at forward to make a deal.  I'm guessing the deal would have to include JVR and Schenn and a 1st rounder.  Beaucheman could be dealt too.  But if the Flyers can get Bobby Ryan they should do it.  I know everyone wants a stud defenseman but Briere and Jagr only have a year or two left.

No!

JvR, Blake Kessel and a first round pick for Luke Schenn, Nazim Kadri and a second round pick and I might be okay with not winning a Cup in June.

Just finished watching the game.

Bob was (frank)ing great.

Andreas "whipping post" Lilja had a solid game.

Isles have a ton of skill.

Grabner has rockets in his skates, man what a first step.

Good on Hartsy, scoring tonight. No Allstar vote, he don't give a poop he's the wookie.

If JvR is out for Luke Schenn, We need a forward in JvR's place. The more we talk about this, the more I somehow want Kadri added in the deal. If Mike Richards can get you Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds, I'm hoping JvR and a high draft pick can get you Kadri as well. That's the only way I could be completely happy with such a deal.
- Schenn2shine

Just a hypothetical. If JVR is traded, right now Read is playing on the 4th line. Read takes JVR's spot, and Rinaldo is back in on the 4th line.

If your suggesting that the Flyers trade JVR, Schenn, and a 1st for Ryan. Not in this lifetime.

Lilja had a poor first period. After that he settled down. There was one other shift later in the game, that I thought he played poorly on.

eh, what do you expect from a 6th-7th defenseman
(just kidding)

I thought Lilja and Bourdon had decent games.
Meszy looked very solid and aggressive for most of the game.

Bob was fabulous, his confidence playing the puck has really improved and his position to the shooter was good.

He did not make himself look 'small' in the net last night at all.
