Read is a player who is on pace for 27 goals and is an all situations player. He plays on the PP and the PK. And he averages over 17 minutes a night.

he totally is, and i LOVE matt read.

BUUUT...and this brings the whole JvR thing into discussion as well...

of these young forwards on the Flyers, which one DOES NOT "project" to be a 25-30 goal scorer in the NHL

It's good to see that Bob is a hero for shutting down the Carolina Hurricanes and Bryz is a bust keeping his team in games where the team they're facing should actually be in the playoffs.

Problem I have right now is that we need an upgrade on D, but I don't want to lose guys like Read, Cooter and Schenn etc.. I think if we can get a stop gap rental guy and then go for a UFA this summer, that's the way to go.

The key for the Flyers is keeping Bobrovsky rolling while still finding a way to get Bryzgalov back on track before the playoffs. They have the offensive firepower to win most regular season games anyway, but the goal for this year was clearly playoff success. And the club will need consistently strong play in net to achieve that.

Disagree with this point. The goal for this year IMHO was to get younger, solidify goaltending and get out of some really bad future cap situations while still fielding a competetive (not necessarily contending) team.

The Flyers have exceeded this goal given their current spot as top 6 in the NHL at the 1/2 mark. However, I still disagree that this was "the year" from Holmgren's POV.

Sergei Bobrovsky continues to play good hockey. And the Philadelphia Flyers continue to reward him for it. After shutting down Carolina on Tuesday, he'll get the nod between the pipes again tonight on Long Island.

That will give Bobrovsky 17 appearances on the year to Ilya Bryzgalov's 29. That's by no means an even split, but it probably is more than Peter Laviolette envisioned using his backup goalie -- especially considering how much of a commitment the organization made to Bryzgalov in the offseason. It's not a shock that Bobrovsky has performed well though. In the 2010-11 campaign, he surprised a lot of people by posting 28 wins and a 2.59 goals against average as a rookie.

i'll buy that....but he definitely brings a physical prescence and is only a 3rd line forward

that being said, the Flyers have 5 guys then who are YOUNG forwards that project into that realm. they DON'T, however, have any top 3 projected blue liners on their team or in the hole.

in any of these trades that could happen, the flyers need to use legit commodities they have to get the ones they don't.

Um you could make an argument that Bob was (reading some folks on here) was the scapegoat for the Winter Classic loss but the same folks think the "team" was at fault for the Ottawa debacle.

Bottom line is Bobrovsky is playing very well of late. He deserves the start and 2pts is 2pts. I'm sure Bryzgalov will get his chance again.

As soon as Bryzgalov learns to stop the puck more he'll get his chance. I personally thought these two games would of been good for Bryzgalov to play. Facing weaker competition could of been the medicine to cure his game. Of course there is no guarantee that would happen but I like my chances compared to playing better teams. The bottom line though is we shouldnt even have to worry who the opponent is, right now Bryz is going to have to sit and wait for another opportunity.

Have you seen Bryz's playoff numbers with Coyotes? Bob's playoff numbers are comparable (Bryz's playoff #s last year - .879sv%, 4.36GAA). I'm just saying that Bryz hasn't performed well in the playoffs since he left the Ducks. If i recall correctly, he had hall of fame defensemen Scott Neidermeyer and Chris Pronger (in his Prime) in front of him when he was putting excellent playoff performances. Since then, he's not faring well at all. He has won exactly 3 playoff games since he left Anaheim in 2007. I hope he performs well but the Ducks of Bryz's day had a better defense than the Flyers have.

I think we can all agree that team defense was better in the WC than in OTT !

One should not let trade commodities burn a hole in their pocket. Save them for when the right trade is available. Be as the frog in the pond. Do not seek the fly, the fly will come to you.

To Bryz defense he did play the Red Wings two years in a row. They can make any goalie look bad. When you compare talent its head and shoulders above Phoenix.

Comments ranged from he's not ready to be the full time starter to he cost us the game because of that 2nd goal to Rupp etc, etc.

I expect that Bryz's next start will be vs the Bruins on 23 Jan and we'll lose 40-0.

Seriously though, I would like to have had Bryz start tonight vs a supposed weaker team to start to supposedly gain some confidence. As it stands, he'll probably get the Preds on 6 days rest. I hope he's been working hard with Reese.

Im not worried about his work ethic. I think Bryzgalov may be trying to hard to be the savior. He needs to relax and just play hockey.
