I'm still not into that deal. The possibility of the trade becoming "JVR for draft picks" isn't what I'd call enticing, not when the opportunity to sign Suter you're acquiring comes free on July 1.

yea i hear you i would just like to see what they could do playing with superstars it would be a big boost of confidence
- griouxmvp2012

You don't think they already have huge confidence? And that the confidence they do have is in large part because of the way Lavi has used them so far?

I wouldn't change a thing.

Nashville can allow them to talk to them.
- Flyers2821

And why would Nashville do that? Is there any precedence to this? Of a team talking to a player on another team, during the Season, to hammer out a contract with that player? Before making a trade?

Alright so no one likes the JvR for Suter deal...

What about JvR in a deal for Shea Weber? Who is a RFA after the season and not an UFA

JVR will be a consistent 25-30 goal scorer. You don't trade that for a guy who might develop into a top pairing dman.

The only way I would advocate trading JVR is if it was part of a package to land Weber.

He's gonna cost a ton more than just JVR. Try throwing in Schenn and a first. Oh and another good player just to make it work with the cap.

Might develop into one? Suter is a top pairing dman. He would immediately be right there with Kimmo as our best dman.

If I'm Paul Holmgren and I've been allowed to negotiate with Suter, by the time I'm done talking with him I probably have no interest in talking to Nashville anymore.

I meant L. Schenn. I wouldn't trade JVR for any pending UFA. It's too risky.

JvR and a 1st wouldnt do it.. and its a fantasy world because its Shea (frank)ING Weber. They have playoff hopes as well in Nashville. They are likely going to wait till the end of the season to try to work out a deal with him and worst case scenario they lose him during RFA and get 4 1st out of him. More like is that he gets a long term deal. Less likely is that he gets moved during the offseason for a huge package.

I know it's late but ... i watched that Marchand/Salo clip repeatedly. Back in 1970 we called that a hip check
