Serious question: Do you guys think a firesale is coming at/before the TD? Will Darcy have the balls to make some deals?

“We had high expectations at the start of the year. We knew that,” said Sabres center Derek Roy, who has only eight goals and 24 points. “Going forward now there’s low expectations. So now it’s easier to play. We just play loose, play fun. Go out there and play hard."

no, i doubt pegula will accept that this short into his tenure as owner. but as time drags, he may find the status quo unacceptable (which it is).

I've had a hunch that the new pressure applied by Pegula to be great now is killing a lot of core players. They can handle is. Thats why when new guys get called up like, Kass, Brennan, Tropp, Sszszzszszserura like look so good. They are just playing hockey.
- Buffalo--Sabres

Some of the guys have responded fine. Vanek and Pommer seem to have handled the expectations and thrived under them. Roy is too busy figuring out where to go and party after each game.

Why wasnt Ruff fired years ago? Especially when they missed the playoffs a couple years in a row

Yeah I never meant to imply Vanek and Pommer in that group.

But its obvious when I guy like szszszsz, Brennan or Tropp show up with little or no NHL experience and have more of an impact on the game than 2/3 of our team.

Edit: Kass too.

isn't roy the one who told an opposing player not to hit so hard during a game??

Doubtful. Movement of that sort is rare even from bottom-feeder teams. I'm inclined to blame GMs and the inflated value they place on their players the instant they get an inquiry about him.

My biggest problem with Ruff right now is determining why he has Ellis and McCormick on the ice with 5 minutes left down by 2.

But I then go back and ask myself who else he is gonna have on that ice since the alternatives may have the skill but lack the desire.

- GoinFiveHole

I asked the same question.....Is it a statment of the confidence he has in the others

So we keep the status quo and continue to never win anything because we have a coach who hasn't in 14 years, and it's OBVIOUS he's on the verge of leading this pack to greatness?
- stashu

not what a said.... look at what Ruff did with the right players. Always close but them the players get sent packing.

Status quo would mean keeping everything the same, not just the coach.

Do changes need to be made...duh, obviously. But keeping the coach does not necessarily mean status quo.

As I recall, this same coach was able to field a team with Briere and Drury on it that made it to the Conference Finals. I also recall this coach fielding a team that won the President's Trophy for most points in a season.

So I think the coach is capable of winning something.

- GoinFiveHole

Agreed. the best coach in the world cound't get this current bunch of stiffs to play better.. Move some of them

I'm not happy with him earning trophies other than one with tiers and a big bowl on top, thank you very much.

and this team with a different coach will do that

Only so much a coach can do with a team that lacks the heart and desire to play. When one of your CORE players comes out and essentially says it is too tough to play under high expectations, what do you expect the coach to do.

Only reason I get rid of Lindy is so that he can go win a Cup somewhere else with a team of players that actually plays with heart every night.

- GoinFiveHole

I'm with you. I like buffalo. However, the talk about getting rid of Ruff seems more angry at the situation than at him. Go ahead guys, fire him. I'm sure another struggling team will love to pick him up. Grass isn't always greener.
