11 goals in 7 games. And fans of other teams wonder why we are pissed?

Being a Leaf fan I always find it hard cheering for Buffalo (unless they are playing Boston on Montreal) but have always been a big fan of Lindy Ruff.. I really liked him when he played as well.. Living in Boston area I was witness to so many Sabre/Bruin playoff battles and always liked how Ruff would stand up to Boston's toughness (along with Larry Playfair) no matter what the situation. I think he has done a great job over the years behind the bench. I don't follow the team as much now and not sure if firing him is the right thing or not. But I have always admired the guy and wish him the best (of course except when playing the Leafs that is)

Precisely. And pragmatically speaking, it's easier to move one guy than the 10 or so Sabres fans are clamoring for.

Hey, if they want to boot Darcy, move Ruff up and get a new coach, fine.

its not a blue jackets situation
where I would just move what I can(including Rick Nash) and start all over because they're at rock bottom anyway and draft Yakupov.

What could you get for Derek Roy at this point...

Honestly, the only thing that really pisses me off is indifference. That's why, regardless of the scoresheet, I couldn't wait for Connolly to leave. That's why, despite defending him all last season and 1/2 of this one, I've soured on Roy. That's why I said some nasty words when they fell for the Stafford deal. These guys truly don't give a crap.

That I can't understand, and I can understand why this organization would stand for it. These entitled spoiled brats have no right to represent WNY/S Ontario.

That is exactly how we feel. Except we want him fired.

Alone, nothing that would really help. Roy, Ennis/Stafford/McNabb/Kassian and a 1st? You could likely get some return for that.

Only so much a coach can do with a team that lacks the heart and desire to play. When one of your CORE players comes out and essentially says it is too tough to play under high expectations, what do you expect the coach to do.

Only reason I get rid of Lindy is so that he can go win a Cup somewhere else with a team of players that actually plays with heart every night.

- GoinFiveHole

Did someone seriously say that?

I really like Ruff too. But I'm not willing to watch this team flounder just because of it.

get what? you start killing your depth at that point

Kassian/Ennis should stay. I think their nice pieces for the future.

Yeah, we haven't won 2 in a row in exactly 2 months. Our longest winning streak is at 3, it happened once. We have 3 players on pace for 20 goals and no goalies on pace to finish in the top 20 in GAA or SVG %.

They are nice pieces for the future, though I see Ennis as being highly replaceable.

What we need is more strength at Center. If Roy goes out it has to be for an upgrade at Center. Since that's a relatively rare commodity, you would have to overpay.

fwiw, they did mention on Sportsnet last night (I think it was Greg Millen) during the Sabres-Leafs game that he had a 7 year extension.

Kassian is a beast. There was a game in mid Dec. against the Leafs where he absolutely dominated physically.

this is why teams are going crazy over the prospect of Getzlaf becoming available, which I highly doubt he will. #1 C's are hard to find let alone one's that are power forwards too.

Agreed. The word out there is that Anaheim is looking for two roster players, a blue chip prospect and a #1 draft pick for Getzlaf, plus they aren't looking at taking on money. My guess is the #1 draft pick is negotiable because if the other three are worth it no one will throw in the #1 pick.

I honestly think Roy/Sekera/Pysyk and a 2nd gets a conversation. Don't try to get more, and give up a little more if you have to.

I expect that the coach talks to the GM and says, this guy needs to go. He's not willing to put in the work and can't handle expectations.

If Roy wants to play somewhere that there aren't expectations, a place like the Islanders would be a good fit. Regier should call up Snow and see what's up. Maybe we can get something done.

Ruff has a 7-year extension and a boatload of excuses courtesy of the medical staff.

Also, there really aren't any candidates to replace him with that inspire much confidence for a turnaround.

The system sucks, however. Dare I say it, we need a Mike Keenan in here (not actually Mike Keenan PLEASE) but someone who will cajole, embarrass, punish and piss off these spoiled brats out of their complacency. Keenan became the villain to his team, and they rallied for each other against him.

That or we need a Jacques Lemaire who will just (modified) trap other teams into oblivion.

- nfph

that 7 year extension is metric,

it's actually a 10 year extension in the standard system

I blame Canada

Serious question: Do you guys think a firesale is coming at/before the TD? Will Darcy have the balls to make some deals?

I've had a hunch that the new pressure applied by Pegula to be great now is killing a lot of core players. They can handle is. Thats why when new guys get called up like, Kass, Brennan, Tropp, Sszszzszszserura like look so good. They are just playing hockey.

Maybe we could package Roy and Darcy for the rights to negotiate with Yashin, then bring in LaFontaine as our new GM
