How the (frank) does Luke Schenn, a physical, stay at home type, replace a puck mover who is mobile like Matt Carle?

I'd be interested in Schenn, but Burke is not going to give him away. I'd bet he'd want a 1st rounder and a guy like Read for him.

More likely, IMO, is Cody Franson, who has been in and out of Wilson's doghouse.

- Jsaquella

We could get Franson cheap methinks. I liked him in Nashville. He has tanked while in Toronto for whatever reason.

overall, i'm happy with lilja. he's doing what they need him to do for the most part. i don't think we're talking modry, kraijek, parent territory here.
- hammarby31

Definitely not in Parent territory. When he first got here, Lilja got a bad rap for essentially not being named Sean O'Donnell. I think he's shown most nights he can handle third pairing minutes fine. He's nothing to write home about, but he isn't supposed to be.

the carle comparison of schenn is silly, nothing in that story makes me beleive that there is anything brewing

i would love to have luke schenn of his first 2 years and would give matt read and a 2nd rounder for him.

what has happened to his game in toronto, ive heard hes been a healthy scratch at times?

This is Seravalli's story this AM about the Flyers talking to Burke about Luke Schenn. Sounds interesting on many levels and like it could be a good fit. Any opinion and thoughts as what it might cost us?

Schenn entered this season as virtually untouchable and it would be a panic move for the Leafs to pull the plug now unless it's part of a blockbuster trade. Young defensemen take time -- as in years-- to come into their own, and Schenn is still only 22. He's already pretty good, just hasn't become a franchise defenseman through 3 1/2 seasons.

I'm a bit leery of a 24-year-old defenseman who has both size and proven NHL point-producing ability that two organizations have basically written off.

Bobrovsky was stellar last night. Warms my heart, I friggin love the guy.

As far as who to start on Thursday? No brainer, you go with Johan Backlund.

I dont get it Bill. He looked pretty good in Nashville, and I was quite surprised they gave up on him. I thought he'd turn out to be a solid #3, big scoring dman, but obviously that hasnt happened. ATM he's a #5-6 guy on alot of teams. Id be hesitant too, but if we cant get Gleason or somebody like that, i'd turn to Franson. He's better than Lilja.

These two games in my opinion, was the perfect chance to get Bryzgalov going. Your playing Carolina and NYI, the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference. Now instead of your suppose #1 goalie in net your playing your backup. Those games were the perfect opportunity to get Bryzgalovs game going and instead he was riding the pine. Maybe Lavy went with Bob cause of the 4 games in 6 days and I can understand that. Im just not jumping all over the Bob-wagon bc he beat a terrible team in Carolina. I do think Bob played well and dont want to take that away from him last night. He gave the team a boost between the pipes last night.
- stveshdy

I agree. I think he may have gone with Bob to give Bryz a bit of a rest as you say. Now come back with him on Thursday and Sat IMO. It's all good.

That he is. Would add big shot on power play if nothing else. I think Franson's size works against him -- coaches and GMs see a 6-foot-5, 215-220 pound defenseman who is not physical at all, and he ends up in the doghouse.

Flyers really need to look at Gleason. He would be a great addition to this roster.

Agreed. He's really the Jeff Carter of dmen... but I do think they need to make a trade before the TD. The defence seems to be wearing down, and getting slower. MAB is starting to show the rookie inexperience, and Lilja is just a #6 dman, who cant play PP or really PK, unless needed. I really hope they can pry Gleason out of Carolina for not much. A 2nd rounder would be great.

I think that's a great assessment. He still has some valuable tools that could instantly help the Flyers. First being the big shot from the point. Secondly, he's a very good skater, especially for his size. He just doesn't seem to have a knack for the nuances in the defensive zone. Would need to be sheltered and be paired with a solid defensive player.

bill - lava continues to use jvr at the point on the pp. i just don't get it. not saying that decision is the reason why it looks so bad at times, but it's not helping.

cant say ive watched a hell of alot of Franson, but i was under the impression the big knock on him was his total lack of speed.

at least that's what the Leafs bashers were all saying after the trade.

Bobrovsky was outstanding last night. This kid is playing like someone who wants the starting job.

23 years old, only with 1+ years of the North American game under his belt, and he is 37-16-9 with a career save % that currently sits at .916

Flyers have made a financial commitment to Ilya Bryzgalov, right now I'm terrified that Bobrovsky leaves either via trade, or FA after next season, and goes on to be a franchise type goaltender for 10+ years. It is certainly a possibility, and one to be concerned with.

A Leaf fan also suggested this trade:
To Tor: Giroux
To Philly: Kadri, Scrivens, Franson, 2nd

and another Leaf fan said this: Kadri and Schenn for Parise would be an absolutely idioctic trade for the Leafs.
