my attempt at keeping things somewhat normal today.

Not the same but along the same lines the Justin Williams/Markov trade still haunts me, I'd hate to see it happen again.

It's not that level...but yeah, I'd hate to see JvR become a 35 goal a year guy, and watch Schenn get trounced by the fanbase when he blows a coverage.

Yeah, I like Schenn, too...just not the level I like JvR. If I'm moving JvR, the return better be an out and out stud. Again, I'm not saying JvR for Shea Weber would happen, but JvR as part of the package-so long as the package isn't too large.

All the trade talk with JVR and Schenn is crazy. JVR is nowhere near 100%, and Schenn has basically missed the entire season thus far. He missed a good part of camp with the shoulder injury, then he suffered a broken foot, then the concussion. The guy just recently played 5 consecutive games for the first time. Now that he has had a chance to be healthy and stay in the lineup he is showing his potential.

If the Flyers want to land a Suter or Weber they are going to have to part with some combination of young players and picks, but the defense core can still be improved fairly significantly without mortgaging some of the future.

Thats why going after a Gleason, Allen, or Beauchemin makes sense. Im willing to part with a pick and a player from the Phantoms to acquire one. If the price is too high, lets wait till the summer to upgrade the defense.

Yup. Agreed. I liked what I saw from Gleason on Tuesday night.

Stole my thunder!

If I had my way I would not trade any current roster player. If a depth d-man can be had for a mid round pick and a phantom so be it. If not, let the team grow and build in free agency.

STOP TRADING THE FUTURE for gratification now. Keep Schenn, JVR, Cooter, Read, Z, Bourdon, Gusty, etc etc etc.

Dont rob me of having our top 3 centers being Giroux, Schenn, and Cooter for years to come.

He isn't a Pronger replacement of course, but he's a substantial upgrade of Lilja or Bourdon.

Ducks gave up Lupul, a top defensive prospect and a pick to acquire Beauchemin. Not saying that's exactly what they'll get back, but I don't think a 2nd and a Phantom gets it done.

He's going to be a UFA and the Ducks are in the dumpster. They're not getting a ton back. Even with teams looking for defense help, there's a lot of teams in the doldrums that will be sellers that have solid defensemen for sale.
