They're using the LITR exemption to keep Walker up. You can't bank LTIR Cap space. Once the day is over, if you don't use that days exemption space, it's gone for ever. It's going to be almost impossible to trade Walker. It would be even harder to trade him if he was down in the AHL, and any team trading for him would have to bring him through recall.

I wouldn't suggest they could trade Walker, why would anybody trade for that cap hit.

I just figured it would make more sense to have a smaller cap hit as the 7th dman whether that's Lilja (not a knock on Lilja, he is what he is and that's a 6/7th Dman) or what have you and have Walker in the minors.

Really the Flyers could have and maybe should have $3.5m in the minors with Shelley, Walker and Bartulis because I don't Lava using any of them unless he's forced to do so.

I hope the Flyers think long and hard before they hand out multi-year deals or trade for fringe NHL/AHL players.

I heard that.. and I LOVE that he made them eat it. The Habs are an absolute mess right now and I think it's fantastic. I am basically surrounded by Habs fans out East here who have crawled into the woodwork with the Leafs Bruins and Flyers all doing better than the Hab nots. It's great!
- Hextall271

I have 3 really good friends who are Habs fans.

Two are good fans and one is an over the top Hab fan. I am enjoying the over the top friend suffering right now.

Now my friends who are Leafs fans, that's a different story. I want to hammer them all with a Tito Santana flying burrito.

I have heard him and Doan mentioned.. comical really..

Only way you move these young guys is if it were to happen the way you suggested.. for a top young d-man with similar potential..

Im talking guys like Pietrangelo, Bogosian, Gudbranson, Larsson...

- jak521

There is no way in God's green earth Homer would be so stupid as to trade the youth he just acquired this summer in an overhaul for a veteran rental. For a quality young D man..I can see it as it's a team need.

No way he does a Coburn for Zhitnik kinda deal. If worst comes to worst, I say we wait it out to UFA season and try to pry away a Suter etc in advance of 1 july..giving up mid picks.. Homer's worked too hard to construct this young squad to panic and screw it all up.

Walker's contract -- which has another season to run beyond this one -- makes him very hard to trade even if he were actually getting into games. I assume they'll send him down as soon as they deem Gustafsson physically ready to return (the player himself says he's ready, but that's to be expected).
- bmeltzer

I wasn't suggesting trading Walker because I know that's a deadend.

Just a horrid contract, unreal that he still has a year left on it.

There's a guy here at work who has Habs tattoos (hab symbol eating a Leafs symbol on his arm) and his whole cubicle is Habs junk..(dinky cars, flags,..basically crap).

It's fantastic to see them suffer.

I have been thinking a lot lately, and even a move for Gleason wouldnt make much sense to me unless they were planning on resigning him.. Dont trade away picks, prospects, depth, for a rental..

I think he will be sent down as soon as Gussy is back.. not that i agree with it.

As everyone knows, Plind likes Shelley more than I like Lilja.

It would make more sense if Gustafsson wasn't injured, and the Flyers weren't using LTIR. The only reason for keeping Walker up with the team as far as I'm concerned is to hope for a miracle and try and trade him.

Timonen the destroying plunked another player in the melon last night.

I wonder if that type of player might be somebody the Flyers could target. Spacek has almost a $4m cap hit but he's a solid NHL dman that has an expiring contract and I would think a mid-round pick might get it down.

Hopefully Gusty is ready soon and is able to step in and help, he looked not to bad in his handfull of games debut this season.

Every time I have said to myself, the team clearly needs this addressed, and Homer better have a plan, he has come through. The cupboards were bare of prospects and high end youth and we needed a goalie?.. boom.. Carter and Richie gone to fill the gap. I expect he'll take creative action to fix the D.

No GM's actions can guarantee a cup, but post lockout we've been in the playoffs every year but one and played a ton of playoff hockey. Not all org's can say that.

he'll get er done.

MAB has played admirably and has really helped the Flyers get through the injuries. He has put himself in the NHL mix. But I beleive once he's 100%, Gustafsson is an upgrade over MAB.

Though not a thrilling win by the Flyers I have to give them credit for a few reasons. As you stated Bill the Giroux line was shut down for a 3rd straight game yet they've won 2 of the 3 and have scored 9 goals putting to rest the myth IMO that the Flyers are a one line team. Funny thing is most don't realize besides the handful of very very deep teams in the NHL most teams get scoring for 1 line and it trickles down from there.

I have to give the Canes defense credit, I thought they did a very solid job against the Flyers forwards last night and Ward played solid as usual.

I also have to give credit to the Flyers overall defensive game. Bob with out a doubt played very well and I thought team defense was much better.

Thumbs up to Schenn and Cooter. I hope the folks on here who kept saying trade Schenn, trade Schenn will now shut it. The kid is going to be a hell a hockey player.

And how about the 4th line last night, simply awesome. I had to look up the minutes played by Coots and HarryZ. I didn't look up Read because he gets extra time on the PP etc. HarryZ around 7 mins and Cooter under 10. Gotta say they both were excellent in every second they played.

Now I hate to beat a dead horse but the Flyers are wasting valuable cap space with Shelley and Walker. It's obvious Lava has no desire to play Walker unless he's forced to do so and Shelley is a 14th forward who is making $1.1 million. I really think it's a big waste but the Flyers management must see some value.

As you pointed out Bill all things considered the Flyers are pace for 108 points and that's damn good.

Go Flyers

- Buts16

buts, there may be people who want to trade schenn cause they think he's not that good, but I'm one who thinks our need on d is great enuf that if we could get a dman of comparable age/value, I'd do it. he's certainly building value at this point w/ his play.

One fun fact I read a while back is that the Flyers are very close to surpassing the Habs for first in all time reg season winning % if you can imagine. Not sure the numbers, but If the Habs crap the bed, and we have another solid 100 pt plus season, that may happen.

Neither is really hurting the Flyers Cap right now. Sending either down today, versus around the deadline, doesn't save the Flyers any Cap space.

LOVE LOVE that the Habs got shut out at home by Halak.

The Habs moved the Molson Cup for December presentation to last night (3rd home game of the month) The winner was Price and this was obviously done to take away from the return of the Halak. They'll say it wasn't but it was and it was petty.

Watch out for the Blues, holy smokes they're on fire

I just dont like the guys game. Im not a fan. If you are gonna get a guy who is a fringe 6/7th d-man, he better have one area that stands out, and I prefer that to be nastiness. He just drives me nuts. There is nothing about his game at all that stands out. He doesnt have good foot speed, he isnt a heady d-man.. isnt intimidating, and seems to be a liability when he is on the ice.

Idk.. just wish we had other options...
