it's insane how early they get there and how much time they have to kill. the last 2 hours before noon (PST) is always "well, let's check the board to see which notable players are still out there," and "there haven't been many deals but we still have 20 minutes left. remember folks there are always a few deals that get announced after the deadline b/c of the backlog at the nhl offices."

as an aside, they always say that it's a rush to get the deals faxed to the nhl offices. my question is: does the nhl still use faxes as their primary device for communicating deals? really? i can see burkie screaming at nonis b/c the fax is out of toner and it needs more paper.

The leafs are interested in zack parise, bobby ryan, getzlaf, eric staal, rick nash, and carter. Sources also say the leafs are on the hunt for a goalie as well.
