I don't see what the big problem is. The Devils could easily make room for Parise to stay if they wanted. Brodeur's cap hit is going to go down and the cap will go up again. The Devils allready have about 2.5M in space as they stand now and Parise won't really get a huge raise over the 6 M he is getting now. I mean Parise could leave if he wanted but just because he doesn't sign before the deadline doesn't mean they should trade him. It's not uncommon for stars to sign with their original teams after the trade deadline. The Sedins waited untill free agency to resign.
