it isn't out of the question that Parise goes to July 1st unsigned.
If that happens, I very much like Burke's chances of getting him. - Big_Lightnin
Would be a tough sell though with teams like Detroit going for him.
The only scale tilting advantage the Leafs have is a picture of Parise in a Leafs hat as a kid |

dude, I wasn't making the argument, I'm just telling you it most definitely was discussed by actual hockey analysts on television, not just Leaf fans on HB.
You initially said "nobody was talking about Reimer for Vezina" and I was just pointing out that was innaccurate. - Big_Lightnin
And I'm saying it IS accurate. The discussion "Reimer for Vezina" is VERY different from speculating whether he could have gotten nominated IF he played 60 games. They're not the same thing. |

Juice box, the leafs are not contenders. They are in the same general area as NJ, the "sniffing around the bubble" territory. Accept it. If all he cares about it playing in June, it won't be in Newark or Toronto. - WayneZ
The comparison should be NJ now vs TOR + Parise.....
Toronto + Parise is better than NJ now... |

There is no doubt he will go hard for him.
It's just a matter of what Parise thinks of the team after they trade away the necessary pieces to get him.
Wouldn't mind trying to sign Doan to a 2-3 year contract in the summer...he's old but would be a nice piece to teach the forwards a thing or two. - Juice
If he ends up in Toronto, he becomes a god in this city. I'm pretty sure he'd be a right fit in Toronto, I would see him wearing the Leafs' jersey. What woud it take to bring Parise in Toronto ? Kulemin, Gunnarson and a pick maybe ? |

The Devils should do anything possible to re-sign Parise.
That said, the most logical place for Parise to land outside of NJ is Minnesota. It's not a cup team yet, but he was born in Minneapolis, and they obviously have the cap space. |

Fair enough but
TO + ZPAR not better than NYR/BOS/VAN
If that is all he cares about then he won't be a Leaf. That was the whole argument. |

So...with Parise the Leafs are an 8th place team. Yet at the moment they sit in 7th place.
Sounds like solid logic to me. - Juice
Solid logic yes ....the Leafs were at the top of the conference at the beginning of the season correct? They have now slid down to 7th at the half way point...they will continue to be hot and cold all season especially with an AHL goaltender between the pipes. Washington will be there at the end and probably will pass you guys which leaves you with the last spot to fight over at the end with the other dwellers in the East. |

If he ends up in NYR/BOS/VAN these teams would have to give up their depth just to make a run at the cup. I don't think they'll go after him, and they wouldn't be able to sign him in the offseason |

A guy going from NJ, where he probably could walk down the street in uniform and not be recognized, to a situation like Toronto where he would have reporters hiding out in his bedroom closet, wouldn't end well. He chokes under pressure as it is. I think he would be in the fetal position after a week of the TO spot light. |

So, your logic is that Toronto has been sliding. Call me crazy, but hasn't Washington actually slid even further since the beginning of the season? Isn't Florida sliding pretty quickly right now..... Faster than Toronto?
A rocket scientist you are not. |

And when has he choked under pressure? When he got gold at the U18 and U20 IIHF tournaments? When he buried the miracle game-tying goal in the Olympics? When he scored countless goals in the shootout for the Devils?
Give me a break. Parise is a winner, no matter how many people are putting him in the spotlight. |

How about everytime he's been in a playoff series or anytime we play a big game, like in Boston the other night. When the stakes get high, zach gets real quiet. Im sorry man, i love him to death, but he doesn't rise to the occasion. WOrld competitions mean very little to me, and the shootout is a crappy gimick, so im not impressed. The guy is far from clutch. |

James Neal got a text from Big Ben to tell him to suck it up and play. There are some tough warriors in the City of Pittsburgh when it comes to playing hurt. |

So he goes to NYR?.....TOR would improve more than most teams would by adding him because they would lose the least from their active roster to do it.
TOR has owned NYR this year.... |

Take em. Just make sure you help us to stock our coffers before you go. Parise is a 6.5 million dollar player in my mind and anything more is just based on hype. If the guy wants more than that, his first order of business should be to start outscoring David Clarkson. |

Im not gonna bash him, i still love the guy. However, when we have big measuring stick games, i.e. in Boston the other night, he is habitually a no show. It's one of those dirty little secrets all devil's fans know but they don't like to admit it publically. |

I'd expect it to cost at least:
Schenn + Kulimen + Rynnas or Scrivens
Kadri + Gunnarson + 1st round pick
Colborne + Franson + Rynass or Scrivens + 1st round pick
Kulimen + Gunnarson + Rynass or Scrivens
Schenn + Kadri + 2nd rounder
I honestly don't know...I don't think a trade for him will happen. If he ends up in Toronto, it'd probably be via UFA signing.
But you're right, if he was in Toronto; and performed, he'd be a king in this city. |
