Ha Ha so for the next 4-6 weeks they are supposed to stay around 7-10 without Crosby, Staal, Neal, Letang and who knows who else is out long term? I doubt it. I wouldn't feel comfortable acquiring the likes of Iginla or someone like that and giving up assets. Last year they were much tighter on defense and thought they could weather the storm. Not sure they want to weather the storm this year. I'm sure this has to be taxing on their psyche. Hopefully I'm eating these words mid February.

I maybe am being to optimistic, but if they could play at a .500 clip in these 4-6 weeks, it's possible. Just look at Tim Tebow vs. the Steelers yesterday, and the Pens team from January foward last season.

i feel the same way.... im not saying go sell the farm for ryan or parise.. even though that would be great to have one of those guys on our team....

lets say we pick up burle off re-entry, that gives us a potential 2/3rd center to replace staal (i know he didnt fair well in edm, but change of scenery could help) we put him with kuni and dupes
so:
sulli geno tk
kuni brule dupes
cooke vitale tangradi
adams park asham
(williams/jeffrey)

that could keep us afloat until deadline... idk

I don't have a big issue with picking up Brule but why move Kuni off Geno's line?

They almost won the division without Crosby and Malkin while Neal had zero production when he came here last year. Letang is irreplaceable on this team, but I'll take the loss of Staal over Malkin. I'm not saying they can win in the playoffs without those players, but it is possible to hang around and make a solid run for a spot when they come back at the end of February.

Look at the bright side, imagine how rested the those players will be when they get back.

A player like Iginla isn't coming here...especially since he's got a big contract for next year and Shero would never give up significant assets for UFA's regardless of the bind they're in. If he's going to trade quality, he'll get quality in return.

Your talking one game that Tebow played well versus 20 games we would need to play well. Not to mention a lot better than we have been when Staal and Neal were playing. I just don't see it. This isn't the same team as last year. I don't think the grit and determenation. Again I hope they prove me wrong I just can't see it. And please consider my earlier post about being mentally drained by all the injuries. I'm in the feeling sorry for myself stage

took kuni off neals line to give brule a grinder, plus jt in his blog said something about genos line switching...

also the teams from last yr arent the same... caps losing, philly and rangers being powerhouses, fla in the lead, tb tanking...

I think your underestimating Staal especially in the type of game that we will need to play without all of those guys. I love Malkin and he is very creative but he isn't the most defensively reliable player we have. We won't even get into penalty kill without Staal and Adams.

Yes and unfortunately we play the rangers and the Flyers and Devils a lot in a season. Caps are 2 points behind us.

To be honest I don't think it will take that much to move Iginla. He has a NTC so he decides where he wants to go, the Flames probaly want to move him just to get something to rebuild on, how many contender teams can fit his cap next yr? It's not like the Thrashers received that much to get Hossa or Kovalchuk, Iginla is older than both of them, and the Flames GM is equally as dumb as the Thrashers GM.

Josh Yohe is saying that he spoke to Asham and Asham should be good to go tomorrow, and he thinks DJ will finally return to the line up this week.

if shero has any plans to trade at the deadline with what we have now, i wouldnt mind him doing it now. if he planned on trading nisk or lovejoy (plus picks/prospects) at the deadline for a 2nd/3rd line winger then pull the trigger now. we can use some help right now. engelland/despres sounds like a good 3rd line pairing next year. keep lovejoy because of his low cap hit as a scratch (unless a team overpays for him) and let nisk go or trade him. nisk is a good player and he has potential, but not with a team that has so much depth, and young players coming up. nisk plus a pick can easily get a well rounded winger.

from the fourthperiod.com The Penguins are believed to have interest in Edmonton Oilers right wing Ales Hemsky, Carolina Hurricanes left wing Tuomo Ruutu, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Vinny Prospal and Calgary Flames center Olli Jokinen.

I'll pass on all of those guys.

Same, and I don't really see how any of them will help the current situation. Olli Jokinen really?

Hemsky would come here and get hurt in his first game. I'd take Ruutu. Prospal and Jokinen are laughable...

I just don't see the point of the Penguins going out and getting anyone this year. I know the season isn't over, but without Crosby, Letang, Neal, and Staal, I just can't see how the Pens are going to hold on to a Playoff spot over the next two months.

I know it might be an unpopular decision to just throw in the towel for this season, but i'd consider being a seller come the trade deadline. Moving either Lovejoy or Niskanen wouldn't bring in any top-tier prospects or high draft picks, but Shero may be able to find some additional scoring depth for the 3rd/4th line next year and a mid-round pick or so. One thing i've noticed is that the Pens count on Crosby and Malkin to generate almost all of the offense; a few more goals from the 3rd or 4th line would definetly be a welcome change.

I am also intrigued by being sellers if you go back and read thru these posts.
