Wayne Cashman not mentioned as one of the top five Flyer captains?

Must have been an oversight by Bill.

Sure, but the Flyers were a superior team to Buffalo. When that's the case you can overcome inept goaltending. When teams are evenly matched that's when the goaltending comes into play.
- PLindbergh31

But they weren't close to evenly matched with Boston. They were totally and completely outmatched.

But Montreal and Tampa Bay, teams the Flyers were clearly better than, played 7th games against Boston and were a bounce of the puck away from eliminating them.

Flyers had zero confidence in the goalies after the circus against Buffalo. It's impossible to play when you are worried every time you make a mistake the puck ends up in the back of your net.

Boston looked like they were in a different league. They out hit, out worked, out played, out coached, out goaltended, out equipmented, and out ate the Flyers.

The only thing the Flyers did better out drink them... and that was a close race.

(I fully agree with your comment)

What are your expectations for Jagr this season?

If he scores less then 25 goals/60points will he be under achieving?

- Marc D

He's still a legit top 6 forward and at a one off of 1 yr @ 3.3 or whatever it was he really only has to put up whatever the average points a top 6 forward scores these days. Anything over 45 is a bonus in my eyes.

Can't wait until Couturier gets a real nickname.

The only knock on Landeskog is that he looks to be the type of prospect that has already maxed out his potential. So for the early going he could be better, but i like the long term projection of Cooter better.
- jak521

I never quite understood that thinking or how they can project about a player maxing out his potential at 18 years of age. I don't understand how professional coaching, better conditioning, and some maturing couldn't make a great junior player even better.

Perhaps by not equaling the points he put up, but certainly by adding an element or two to an already solid base.

I think the one thing people are not taking into consideration is the effect he will have on the young Czech Jakub Voracek. Im sure JV will be all ears to (probably) the best his country has ever produced.

He could grow leaps and bounds listening to Jagr.

From a point production stand point.... Anything over 40 points will make me happy.

- jak521

Do you think Voracek and Jagr will get to play together?

All the projections of lines I've seen have them on different lines, but there may be some chemistry between the two that could make it worthwhile to have them on a line together.

I dont think so to be honest, but i do think they will see some time together. I think being together @ practice and on the road during the season will help bring JV to the next level. Atleast I hope.

Yeah, alright. We gave a couple A teams a tough night early in the year (lost by a goal or so) and he's had a thing for us ever since. We have a few good players. I am not one of them.

Projected lines are kinda dumb before you even see the players on the ice together. How do they know who will have chemistry with each other and who will bring out the best of there linemates?

True,

Jagr and Voracek may be magical on the same line. Or they may continually trip over each other. We'll see.

they recovered from the soft goals in buffalo series.

they didn't even compete in the boston series aside from game 2.

- OrangeBlack27

exactly. the compete level just evaporated. they needed game 2 to even have a shot. probably deserved game 2. didn't get it. threw in the towel.

Ehh, some guys you can peg just by their past.. I see the lines looking like this to start.

JvR-Grioux-Voracek
Hartnell-Briere-Jagr
Simmonds-Schenn-Nodl/Read
Betts-Talbot- Nodl/Sestito/Shelley/Holmstrom

I'd flip-flop Jagr and Voracek. I'd love to see the pass first Voracek feeding Briere

that's my expectation, but if he fails to hit 60 i won't call it an underachievement in an of itself. other factors have to be considered.

Depends on the expectations. If Schenn has 12 goals and 25 assists, there will be some who feel that he underachieved. If JvR doesn't score 34 goals, there will be some who feel he didn't meet expectations.

In my own expectations, I think Meszaros could be the guy that doesn't achieve what I hope he does.

- Jsaquella

The thing to remember is that development with a lot of young defenseman, is rarely linear. There are ups and downs in their play. We saw it with Coburn and Meszaros last year. We saw Carle struggle in the playoffs. But on a whole in the big picture, I see Meszaros getting better and better.
