Truth be told, I'm hopeful that Gustafsson can make this team out of camp, even if Pronger is deemed ready.

He's got the offensive skills to QB a PP, isn't going to kill you on defense, isn't 36 years old and hasn't been charged with attempted rape.

More Gossip. Are we talking about Pronger's time in Edmonton?

Hey, the lack of a rape allegation, substance abuse problem or generally being an bumhole is a huge plus

Talking about the woman who accused Lilja, Kristian Huselius and Henrik Tallinder of rape back in 2005.

My hopes for him are tempered, but I think he could be a serviceable NHL defenseman.

I have read probably 5-6 different articles where the writer says they were blown away that he didnt go top 5. The fact that he fell to 8 is appalling. He has arguably the highest long term potential in the draft, but is already capable of competing for an NHL spot.

I have heard NOTHING but good reviews.

When the only knock on a guy is that he's average at one thing while he excels in every other aspect makes me very excited to see him play. There really is nothing bad to say about they kid. He's an average skater with all the time in the world to make adjustments and he had Mono. Big deal. Nugent-Hopkins and Larsson aside I can't believe this kid slipped past the 3rd pick. Let alone all the way down to 8.

Landeskog is the other guy I would have considered taking ahead of Couturier.

Strome and Huberdeau are both great prospects, but I feel Cooter's a better one.

By high hopes I mean he could play in the NHL and stay in the NHL. Who was the last flyers dman to be brought in, developed and able to stay in the nhl?

I by no means think he will be a top 4 d-man... unless he continues to develop

The only knock on Landeskog is that he looks to be the type of prospect that has already maxed out his potential. So for the early going he could be better, but i like the long term projection of Cooter better.

That is true. I like Landeskog because he's gritty and has a knack for making a big play.

You know that the odds are very high he'll get stuck with Cooter.

you know it's going to be cootsy, which will then result in a stupid santa coatesy/cootsy segment.

It'd be great if bodog offered odds on bad hockey nicknames.

Goaltending isn't why the 2010-11 team collapsed in the second half. It's not why the 2009-10 team needed to win a shootout in game 82. It was not the goaltending that caused them to drop 10 in a row during the 2007-08 season and drop from first in the Atlantic to the six seed.

They could still be ready to win now. On paper, the Flyers are very similar to the the Boston Bruins at this time last year.

- Jsaquella

Goaltending caused the playoff collapse. Flyers were good enough with credible goaltending to at least push the Bruins. They could never recover in that series after all the soft goals.

What are your expectations for Jagr this season?

If he scores less then 25 goals/60points will he be under achieving?

Wayne Cashman not mentioned as one of the top five Flyer captains?

Must have been an oversight by Bill.

I think that's the ballpark everyone is forecasting. 60 points would be good enough to justify his signing.

they recovered from the soft goals in buffalo series.

The Flyers were close in one game of the Boston series. As bad as the goalies were, they got handled by the B's.

They were handled in every aspect. I still believe the game 2 loss took all the wind out of their sails in that series. If they win that game who knows what happens. Every other series the Bruins played were all 7 games series. Flyers were better than Montreal and Tampa Bay, sans the goaltending.

I think the one thing people are not taking into consideration is the effect he will have on the young Czech Jakub Voracek. Im sure JV will be all ears to (probably) the best his country has ever produced.

He could grow leaps and bounds listening to Jagr.

From a point production stand point.... Anything over 40 points will make me happy.

Sure, but the Flyers were a superior team to Buffalo. When that's the case you can overcome inept goaltending. When teams are evenly matched that's when the goaltending comes into play.
