I cannot see any way that they make the playoffs in the west without elite tending. I love the sour grapes though from phoenix. if Bryz repeats what he did two years ago with us, and has a solid playoffs, we could be a suprise in the East.

And really, if you're going to be bitter, don't take the Phoenix GM job. It's not like you don't know what position you are in retaining or attracting FAs.

I have no doubt that he will post monsterous numbers here in Philly. Its actually exciting thinking about seeing him in net come opening night. Feels like a lifetime since they had a legit number one goalie.

Sid can do all the conditioning and drills he wants but the real test will come when he is cleared for contact.
- stveshdy

Even conditioning drills can make the PCS worse. All activity should be halted as soon as symptoms return.

Really huh.. It's stupid. Phoenix is fine, but it's not like they are a defenive powerhouse with a ridiculously solid D corps. of course there is gonna be pressure in Philly, but this year I doubt he'll need to stand on his head routinely just to squeak the team into the playoff and he seems to be embracing it.

I am super excited about this prospect as well. Also, my Bryzgalov jersey should arrive today..

I'd love to see 40 + wins. mid 2's GAA and a .920 SP with 7 ish shutouts...

Yeah thats very true. But I have seen players do drills and conditioning and be totally fine. Then when contact came into play, it was literally lights out or dizziness. I wish him well and hope he plays this season, this way there is no excuses when we take the Atlantic Division from the Penguins. I know we won last year but the excuse was no Crosby or Malkin.

I don't care about excuses. Every team has injuries. Crosby being hurt doesn't lessen the Flyers beating the Penguins, just like not having Timonen or Coburn for the 2008 ECF didn't taint the Pens' fans enjoyment of beating the Flyers that year.

Concussions are not like a knee sprain. They're rarely the same for different people. I've dealt with PCS, and it's been different for me each time. Some people have symptoms for 24 hours and then never have another setback. Others will linger for weeks or months. Some will be totally fine after a short period of symptoms, for a week or more, then suddenly get hit with a second wave of symptoms.

That's why doctors always say if you feel any symptoms, cease all activity and see the doctor.

Anything is possible. I mean he did post very solid numbers for an average Phoenix team that plays in the Western Conference. I expect him to post better numbers here, and at worst the same as last season. I dont think people realize how good he is in net unless you have watched him play all the time. He may have looked bad in the playoffs this year but lets face it, he was outmatched every year by the Red Wings. It was like a shooting gallary, he probably couldnt sleep at night time without dreaming pucks coming at him.

For now. But I want to see Thomas play that good again. I think the King will be solid but if you look at the numbers Bryzgalov is toe to toe with him.

Theres no question that everybody is different when it comes to this issue. Concussions can linger for an unknown amount of time. I do agree that Crosby and Malkin being out shouldnt be an excuses but the fact is it will be used everytime. I also dont care cause injuries do happen, either way im still going to celebrate when we win.

Fantastic question and I have been mulling this quite a bit the last week or so since I have re engaged into hockey after mental break. been readin a lot on line and some goalie mags etc that analyze Bryz's style etc. it depends on how Bryz adjusts to the team etc, and it doesn't happen overnight. One thing that can throw a tender off believe it or not is that if he moves from Phoenix where he knows he'll get 30 + shots every night and gets a good sweat on and in a rhythm, to maybe 20-25 and long times where the D don't allow any shots, it can be an adjustment.

Right now i'd rank them something like this.

Thomas
Lundqvist
Miller
Bryz
Price
Fleury
Vokoun

Miller and Bryz are very close for # 3 in my mind.

100% agree on all your points here. People think he sucks in the playoffs but forget about how he came in for two rounds to help Anaheim through the playoffs before Giguere came back. he contributed more than a normal backup to winning a cup. THe detroit massacres were due to the team being completely overmatched.

I could care less about injuries. It's a team sport, the team wins--not the individual.

Phoenix gave up 32.6 shots per game last year. The Flyers gave 30.1 shots per game. Not really much of a difference.

Thats a hell of an individual to lose. I agree that teams win championships but I havent seen many who win when they lose the best player in the league. Not saying it never could happen but thats a huge lose and a confidence killer.

I think that the team will gain confidence from Bryz. Last year both Boosh and Bob played pretty well. However, towards the end of the season, and throughout the playoffs (and rightfully so) the team seemed to lack confidence in the goalie... they would collapse around them which ultimately makes it harder on the goalie.

I have reasonable expectations for this team. I dont think they are going to tear it up, but they SHOULD be able to make the playoffs.

The main things i want to seem improved on this year are the PP and preventing prolonged skids.

They can make all the excuses they want. If the Flyers play the Red Wings in the final, but Detroit's missing Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom, winning that series would be as wonderful as if they had been playing.
