Saw an awesome red Siberian today. Super calm & amazingly friendly. Got talking with the owner. Apparently he picked him up from the side of the road in northern sask as a puppy. Turns out, they're lousy with stray huskies up there, to the point where they have to hunt them down every year, because they form packs and attack people. They kill 200-300 annually, "anything without a collar" he said. To make things worse, these aren't feral dogs- they're all sled dogs, who get dumped when they hit 4/5, because they calm down, and aren't good for races any more. Basically, once they hit the age that they'd be best for family life, they get thrown out, and are forced to become wild, and then get shot.

Surprised this hasn't been a big story. Definitely gonna look into sask husky rescues when I'm ready to buy my own pooch.

looking for north saskatchewan husky rescues, all I could find(ironically) was a story about a man and his husky rescuing some girls from a river.
