i'm a dog person, myself. but we never had dogs growing up.

pearl would fetch, like a dog, so that was cool. if you threw a penny she would go pick it up in her mouth and drop it right in your hand. same thing if you crumpled up a ball of paper. and she loved the sound of crumpling a sheet of paper. she would come running when she heard it. of course, she also would sit in a room full of people and face the wall with her back to everyone - very antisocial!

and as she got older, she got mean. she would still fetch, but she would bring it halfway back to you and then drop it on the floor and then walk away.

Dogs are definitely better. I've never seen a cat fetch, that's wild poop. My friend had a cat that could pick up a chip and eat it. That's the most exciting thing I've ever seen a cat do.

The worst is when you forget for a split second and you try to call them. Better to put them down though. My first dog basically died from falling down the stairs because she was confused in the night. Finding her was terrible and she was in pain and sad looking. Take care shutdown.
