Yes, P is for princess. I have 2 daughters. She was the one who was sick but has recovered. Technically, she was also the one who adopted Iggy.

Hey everyone. So my cousin lost his home to a fire. Like the whole thing is pretty well gone. He, his wife and the newborn are safe but one of their dogs didn't make it out.

I'll be streaming and matching donations up to $100.

If you want to donate direct the gofundme link is here. Just let me know if you donate so I can match it. I know times are hard for a lot of people right now so no obligations.

Buck's the same way about his. He gets really anxious when you take his collar off like he's afraid something bad is going to happen.

probably has something to do with them being rescue dogs. Iggy gets antsy when I pick up his water dish to clean it and refill it. He will watch to make sure it goes back where it belongs.

Yup, their pre-rescue lives really do a mind (frank) on them.

Bear does alright with the collars. We always take his off when he's indoors when we're home. He also has multiple hardware (with quick releases). A harness for long walks, and a regular collar for quick-pees or for going out in the yard.

He's pretty much normal now. A couple things is he likes to be fed while someone holds his bowl, which has to be as shallow as possible. But he will eat out of a bowl if he's hungry enough and we don't have the time.

The biggest thing is he absolutely hates the garage. It might be because he's not fond of bare floors (he'll tolerate certain textures and areas). But the coating on the concrete slab is coarser than the tiles in the kitchen. So I think it may be because it was where he got cooped up in his previous predicament. Which is (frank)ed because he's perfectly house broken. He's never had an accident. So I think they just didn't want to deal with the shedded fur. Which is dumb because it vacuums-up real easy. So the moral here. don't (frank)ing get a dog (or any other pet) if you can't properly shelter it.

Oh yeah ours hates concrete too, but he had been in the SPCA for 3 months by the time we got him. concrete floor, 5x15 yard to go outside in. not a lot of room for an 80 lb dog.

i used to know a dog named butch. he was the size of a cow and his head looked like a lion head. he barked 24 hours a day and could seem pretty violent sometimes. the owners kept him outside with a dog house because he was so strange he couldn't really be indoors without destroying the house. every time he got off his chain he would come back with evidence of murder. like half a turtle shell or one time BONES! we just hoped for the best as far as whether they were animal bones or human bones.

only in the worst weather would they bring him in (i never agreed with that part but i guess i understand their predicament and they were at least not just releasing him into the wild and washing their hands of the situation, but i think it made his behavior worse over time, not better).

anyway, he eventually bonded with my friend kevin who moved in because he was dating one of the girls. and while he would still kill kevin if he wanted to it was definitely the closest i ever saw butch get to a human being. we soon learned that he would go anywhere you wanted him to go except the basement. he would NOT go down the steps to the basement under any circumstances. he'd kill everyone in the house before he would go down there. so we figure he was abused in the basement of whoever had him before we did. it was sad.

he also wouldn't let you hug him. even kevin. i watched kevin try it once and butch snapped at his face! kevin turned his head just in time but still ended up with a bloody cheek. so something weird went on there too.

poor butchy.

1) That's the problem these days. There are experts in science with years of scientific training who know how to differentiate animal bones from human bones. But too many people aren't trusting the science experts these days (just read the EK /Tanner blogs comment sections). Or the science itself.

2) Did he at least tolerate getting petted?

I hate saying it, but I wouldn't fault anyone stuck in the situation of having a dog with that kind of liability having to surrender it to a shelter. As long as the goal is for it to get properly rehabilitated by experts so it can be placed in a proper living arrangement.

butch may have been too far gone for rehabilitation. i'm downplaying how scary he was because i loved him. he was genuinely scary. i was afraid of him and i'm not usually afraid of any dog because 99% of dogs are friendly and even if they aren't they usually realize you're a good guy soon enough and warm up to you. but he was beyond sensing who was good and who was bad. everyone seemed to register as bad with him. except kevin.

to answer your questions, 1) it is indeed scary how many people confidently deny actual science. and 2) butch really wouldn't let people get close enough to pet him. if you were around him for hours and hours he would eventually let you pet him a little bit. but if you came back 2 days later you had to do the whole process all over again.

i have seen him roll on his back and scratch against the carpet and do cute dog things, but for the most part he was kind of a psychotic dangerous dog. and the sheer size of him didn't help calm anybody down. but it wasn't his fault. i think he was definitely treated very bad in the past and his behavior was a result of that.

there was a tiny pug named pugsly in the house and he never went after him or anything (besides trampling him if he was between butchy's point A and point B lol). so he had some kind of compassion somewhere deep inside. he knew not to eat pugsly, who would have been 2 bites for butchy.
