He died. A close friend wrote the last ones from his cliffnotes.

I forget where I left off the first time I tried reading the trilogy. I owned the adventure modules for the AD&D game, though, and followed the story that way (I DM'd a group of 8 through the series). I much prefer the book to getting 8 fellow pre-teens to focus on the task at hand at the gaming table.

The first five or six books are amazing, but after that he kinda stopped forwarding the storyline and was off on a lot of tangents, still relevant to the story just not really moving it along. Originally "A Memory of Light" which was supposed to be the last book (and still is) was going to be one book to wrap it up but Sanderson didn't think he could do that properly with so many subplots to finish up. Jordan's widow agreed and it ended up being three books.

Dragon Reborn and Lord Of Chaos are my favs. Youre right though, the first six are insane.

I read the first one when I was a young lad. I did not enjoy it as much then as this second time through. Thus, I am actually reading the 2nd book. Wish my trilogy had the original Elmore art on it. This new box is nice, but the 1st book's glue is coming undone and the art is not as nice, IMO.

Did you ever get into the Forgotten Realms? I read all of those next. I think they were a little more violent than Dragonlance.

(letting my geek show) I received the first Driz'zt trilogy as a gift but barely read the first book. As an AD&D player who preferred Greyhawk and hated the GH elements that were ported over (stolen) to FR after 1985, I loathe the Forgotten Realms. I did like what I read I just couldn't overcome the fact that the Underdark started in GH and much preferred Gary Gygax's own Gord the Rogue series of books. I re-read that series last year.
