Thats what happens when you go from winning lots of cups to 1 every few years.

I expect I'll be able to see the flames coming from Toronto from across the lake when they finally win one.

1) My first hockey game was in Winnipeg to see the Jets play (the seats were lousy with a steel column in my way but it was the best feeling ever)

2) In High school I had an on going war with my guidance counselor because he was a leafs fan and I was a Habs fan.

3) Since graduating College I have been to every game that Montreal has played in Calgary

4) I was at the game that the Flames won the Western Conference against the Sharks and it was the most amazing energy I have ever felt at a game.

5) When the Habs won the cup in 93 I celebrated with half of Calgary on Electric Avenue

6) I own three chairs from the Montreal Forum (Red, White and Blue, the blue one is seat 19 and is signed by Larry Robinson)

7) I am making my first trip to Montreal to see a game on the 21st

8) I met Dale Hawerchuck's sister on a train in Florida and have cruised with her the last 2 years

9) My wife worked with Sheldon Souray's cousin

10) I still have all my hockey cards from when I was a kid

11) I have never played organized hockey but have won the stanley cup multiple times in Road Hockey

12) I cruised with the BareNaked Ladies and this year I played road hockey on the boat in the middle of the Carribean with Tyle Stewart (the drummer)

13) I have been playing EA Sports hockey since it first came out on the computer and I still suck playing against other people.

14) I have a wall of autographed pucks from Rocket Richard all the way up to Saku Koivu

15) My favourite player of all time is Mario Lemieux

16) This year was my first time ever being in the Hockey Hall of Fame and I made my wife take a picture of me with every trophy.

17) My goal is to see a hockey game in every arena in the NHL

18) I own a puck shaped bar of soap with the Winnipeg Jets logo

19) 3 Habs Jerseys (1 autographed by the team, 1 that doesn't fit and 1 I wear to any Habs game I go to)

20) I only own one Flames item (a Jersey) even though I have lived in Calgary for 16 years.

Let's see it took the Red Sox 86 years to win one, and the Cubs are coming up to 102 years with a champion ship, add the 2 divide in half....add to 1967

2061.

1. My first hockey team was blue, so as a number I chose 15 as it was close to a couple of my favourite players Sundin and Andreychuk. Been 15 ever since.

2. Tried playing goalie once... tried to play like John Vanbiesbrouck... lets just say there's a reason he played in the NHL and I don't.

3. Actually led a league in scoring one year when I was seven... don't know why I can't do it now...

4. Before my family had any form of cable TV, I used to pick up Leafs games on a 10" black and white TV with rabbit ears that would, strangely enough, also pick up local phone calls.

5. My Mother hates hockey in every possible way and I used to endure rants about modern 'gladiator' values it instilled.

6. When I was a kid, I used to think Don Cherry was a pretty good analyst... he's either gotten crazier, or I've gotten smarter... but he looks nuts out there some nights. The Red Wings/Steve Mason rant from a couple weeks ago was a beaut.

7. My sister goes to more hockey games in a year than me. She lives in Atlanta, I live in Southwestern Ontario... go figure.

8. My nickname was Star-pants, after these retro suckers I got from Play-it-again sports with (you guessed it) big stars down each side of the pants. My apparent solution was to get too big for them to fit... thankfully the name died with the pants.

9. I once smuggled 6 tall cans of beer into an OHL game in my pants.

10. I have a few favourite rinks. Loved the Gardens. Got to play in the Sleeman Centre when I was younger and its got a beautiful surface... but this crappy little rink near my home town in Hillsburgh is probably my fav to play on. It was literally -20 in that place and all the parents from either team would be huddled together in the stands. Never saw hockey parents so complacent.

11. I read all of Roy McGregor's Screech Owls books when I was a kid. 'Nuff said.

12. I collected hockey cards for awhile... my fav was Lanny McDonald... practically needed more space on the card to get in that awesome 'stach.

13. I refuse to touch the Stanley Cup. It's a religious thing. Can't touch it until a Leaf does. Could be waiting awhile.

14. Started playing video hockey with NHL 96 for PC. Have bought the game ever since. Been mad enough to throttle an EA representative for the past two years as they continue to shaft PC gamers.

15. I have Canadian currency signed by former Leaf 'greats' Mike Craig, Todd Gill, Peter Zezel and a hockey stick signed by Don Cherry... the real joke is that there was a letter with it that said he was signing a real Canadian stick... it was made in Russia.

16. When I was a kid, Tie Domi ran a stop sign and almost pancaked me in his SUV. Someone needs to get him a phonebook to sit on before he kills someone.

17. I haven't ever played Strat-O-Matic... but I've logged a ton of hours on Eastside Hockey Manager (more or less an electronic version)

18. I never have names or numbers on my jersey. Figure players will come and go, but the team... the team is lasting. Well... most of the time...

19. Only once in my life did I ever dominate a game. Last year, scored 4 goals and added 4 assists... Miss those times as my team hasn't won in '09 and I'm struggling to put up numbers with tendinitis in both my shoulder and ankle.

20. Most enjoyment I ever derived from an All-Star game was 1997 in San Jose. Owen Nolan cemented himself as a legend with the natural hat trick. I literally started choking on what I was drinking when he called his shot on Hasek. Anyone who makes Hasek look bad is golden in my books.

All Oiler fans think Smyth is overpaid. All Hab fans think Souray is overpaid. All Sabre fans think Drury and Gomez were overpaid (true).

Just thinking there may be a little sour grapes there.

BTW I'd take Smyth at his money and 3 draft picks over Dustin Penner. Just Sayin'.

And the Ducks turned those 3 picks into Jake Gardiner, Nicholas Deschamps, and Josh Brittain, big effing deal.

The 1st rounder Burke threw us in the Pronger deal because they made the final we turned in Eberle.

1. the first hockey game I ever watched on TV was Calgary beating the Canadiens for the Cup in '89

2. I've never been a fan of Wayne Gretzky

3. In my 8 years of minor hockey, I was captain once... and was 2nd in PIM that year

4. I never had a scoring touch as a forward

5. but I had a great first-pass as a defenceman

6. I always wore #2 because Al McInnis was my favorite player

7. when #2 wasn't available, I wore #12 which (ironically) represents my favorite hockey player now (Iginla)

8. I've never been in one hockey fight, but have challeneged many times

9. I was almost always the tallest player on my team in minor hockey

10. I had a very hard/fast slapshot, but absolutely no control over it

11. once before a game, I had a blocker thrown at my head in the dressingroom; I had a very small cut that bled like crazy all over my white jersey

12. my first NHL game was Calgary vs. New Jersey in 2002 (Flame won)

13. my first playoff game was during Calgary's '03/'04 Cup run. Vancouver were beating Calgary 4-0, Calgary tied it up 4-4 in the third, and it went to triple over time (Vancouver won). Best game I've ever seen.

14. I went through a roll of "shin-pad tape" every four games

15. I ALWAYS used a Sherwood Peter Bondra stick because it was lightweight, had a shaved grip, and a very illegal curve

16. I've never won a gold-medal in a tournament, but won plenty of silver & bronze

17. I've never got an MVP of a game or tournament

18. I never scored a hat-trick

19. I've always had control of the music in the dressingroom because of my great taste in music (it was almost always Metallica anyway)

20. I honestly & sincerely believe the Flames will make it to the Stanley Cup Finals this year (buit lose to New Jersey)

Hey Ek, one fun fact in your list:

You say your a Goalie, but 2 facts later you say

4. I have never caught a puck at a game, but my wife and daughter both have.

Wow what a goalie...

Anyway, I don't have that much history of meeting hockey players, but I was once in an elevator with Alex Kovalev... Man is he impressive in person. He stunned me just by his presence... He looks smaller on the ice then he really his.

Ok but I'd still take Smyth and those 3 picks over Penner.

BTW a little early to be writing off Gardiner, Deschamps and Brittain don't ya think?

I'm sure Burke had no problem giving up Eberle and winning a cup.

Too early to tell with Deschamps, Brittain and Gardiner. Looks like Gardiner has top pairing potential, Deschamps looks like a 2nd liner at best, and Brittain like a third line plugger if he even makes it.

If any of the three prospects make it at their potential, it will be lopsided in Anaheim's favour.

1. I was an Oilers fan up until I was 4 when my dad told me that our family only cheers for the Canadiens.

2. From age 6 until 15 I took my jersey into a sports shop and had the numbers replaced on my jersey with 33, for Patrick Roy.

3. I grew up playing hockey with Nick Schultz of the Wild and his cousin Jesse Schultz who is with the Houston Aero's currently

4. I played goal from age 8 up until now.

5. My whole family is Canadiens fans, we also have a keeper draft that we've been running for the last 5 years.

6. My grandpa started the tradition in the late 1920's, he was sick of reading stories about hens and farm animals in school so the teacher told him he could read whatever he wanted as long as he brought it in. He started reading newspaper articles about the Habs and Auriel Joliat and Sylvia Mantha in Montreal.

7. My grandpa never saw a game until 1996 when he saw the final three games played at the Forum with my uncle.

8. All my family still plays hockey, my dad in an over 40 pickup league, my uncles in an adult safe league and myself in a competitive Senior League.

9. My first NHL game was in Montreal vs. Isles in Montreal in 2000. Montreal won 4-3.

10. I grew up in Saskatchewan and the same time of my first game I also toured the Molson Center as it was called at the time, I had to correct our Tour Guide a few times during the tour.

11. My last NHL game I was at was in St. Paul, Wild vs Kings this past January, the day after ACDC. Also got to tour the Wild dressing room and facilities after the game with Nick. Met some of the players after the game. Cool Experience

12. This past year my gf gave me a signed Patrick Roy Jersey for Christmas.

13. My sister bought me the Helmet Toque for Christmas also.

14. I own a game used and signed Maurice Richard stick.

15. I play NHL 09 on Xbox 360 usually for an hour every night. I keep my roster the same as the Habs, except for the addition of Anze Kopitar.

16. My last shutout in hockey was two months ago.

17. My grandpa was slowly getting worse and worse and during a visit in the hospital he recalled a game from 10 years ago where we won a game. The details were vague to me but he remembered details from the game and said it was the greatest goaltending he's ever seen. Passed away three years ago. The main reason I still play hockey.

18. Pierre Houde is my favorite announce to listen to on TV.

19. The first website I visit in the morningn at work is Hockeybuzz.

20. Drove to Grand Forks twice round trip of 16 hours to watch World Juniors. First took in the Sweden Canada game and then the gold Medal game. Went with three buddies...amazing experience, except for the 3 hour hold up at the border

Potential is just that until any of the guys actually do anything. All of our teams have seen tons of prospects turn into nothing. I wouldn't say any of those 3 are sure things.

All that being said, Penner has sucked, I have no problem saying that.
