5) of my hockey card collection (not very big) my most prized possession is a mint condition mike gartner rookie card

6) when the bills went to the superbowl 4 years in a row, i was more interested in playing hockey in the basement with the younger kids during the middle of them

7) ive been to games at only 7 NHL cities -- Buffalo, Philly, St Louis, Nashville, Atlanta, Tampa Bay

i could write thousands upon thousands but i'm just going with stream of conciousness here. this will be therapeutic because i've probably just had the worst vacation day EVER with my in-laws. as jeanie bueller once said, "that's it. i want of out of this family!"

1. the first hockey game i ever saw was during the 1980 winter olympics and it's all because of my neighbor across the street who is a year older than me. i was 7 years old, and i instantly became fascinated by the game and particularly the goalies. i immediately began playing hockey in his basement on a slippery floor in my socks with plastic hockey sticks and an orange plastic puck. we used the bottom half of a small piano for the goal. i used a catchers mitt and other odds and ends for gear. eventually, i got myself a sweat set of mylec street hockey pads with the plastic straps.

2. my first nhl game that i saw live was a mere 2 weeks later at the spectrum in philadelphia on march 24, 1980. the flyers lost 5-2 to the islanders and was only one of two losses they suffered on home during the entire regular season. we sat 6 rows behind the net and i believe phil myre was in goal for the flyers. ever since then i've been a diehard flyers fan. my dad had a friend/business associate who lived in cherry hill, nj who had season tickets and that's how i ended up at my first flyers game. i grew up at the central jersey shore where hockey was not popular and at that time was still considered rangers country. the only flyers games i could get on tv were road games on channel 29 or when they went national on espn.

3. the last flyers game i saw at the spectrum was the dreaded game 5 of the 1995 ECF against the devils. the claude lemieux game. i was living in burlington, vermont at the time and had to drive back after the game to be at work the next morning. at least i also attended the flyers win in nj for game 4 the day before where brodeur was chased from the net.

4. i quit a job with the nba and moved from jersey city, nj to a suburb of philly in 2003 so i could become a flyers season ticket holder. it was some of the best money i ever spent. game 5 series victory against the devils and the game 6 victory in OT against tampa in the ECF are two of the greatest games i've ever seen in person.

5. instead of going to the beach in the summer, i went to goalie camps from brick, nj at the ocean ice palace and home of jim dowd to exeter in new hampshire to the international goaltenders school in yorkton, saskatchewan.

6. i still have my first flyers "jersey". it was given to me at the age of 9 and isn't even really a jersey. it's a stretchy, ribbed cotton thing that's orange with a wide single white stripe on top and a single black stripe directly under it. the logo is made of some kind of velvet-like material.

7. pelle lindbergh is still my favorite flyer and my hero. i still see pictures of him every single day. one of the 5 worst days of my life is the day his ended, and although i never met him, he inspired me to go to sweden. i have been 3 times, including the fall semester of my senior year of college which was spent in stockholm as an exchange student. i played on a junior team for the island of Vaxholm which is in the archipelago off of stockholm. borje salming's son anders was on my team. i have been to pelle's grave in skogskyrkagarden three times. the first time i got lost and couldn't find his grave. i had to scale a stone wall in total darkness to get out of the cemetery. the 2nd and 3rd visits were successful.

8. i was on the jr. varsity team at the university of vermont as a walk-on and was technically a teammate of john leclair and aaron miller. i remember i stopped leclair on a breakaway drill during training camp. i was cut my sophomore year as i had a poor camp. that phone call from coach mike gilligan was one of the other worst days of my life.

9. i own 2 game used items of pelle's. a yellow swedish national jersey from the early 80's with the #25 and a sherwood pmgp stick from the '84-85 campaign. i also have a replica mask and an autographed photo among other pieces of memorabilia. which reminds me that while living in stockholm, i visited the national sports museum at the Globe Arena and was actually able to touch his blue "road" national team sweater from the '80 Winter Olympics. I considered stealing it.

10. the most ridiculous looking helmet/cage of all time, besides butch goring's, is the cooper xl7.

11. i have coached youth hockey from new jersey to harlem to vermont and minnesota.

12. the last time i saw pelle play live was in a 3-1 win against the red wings on march 28, 1985, a game that clinched the patrick division. the red wings goalie that night was corado micalef, one of my favorite obscure hockey names ever.

13. i have been coached by islanders great billy smith as well as former wings goalie tim cheveldae at summer hockey programs.

14. i have touched the stanley cup and feel blessed to have done so.

15. the worst hockey injury i've suffered was from a slapshot directly on the side of my kneecap. i managed to finish the game (as we didn't have a backup that day) holding off a 6 on 3 during the final minute and winning 2-1. i've also suffered a cut index finger (which actually happened on the bench. i was put into the game in the 2nd period and we came back to win. i needed stitches to close the wound and my catching glove was soaked in blood), a very badly bruised crotch, and a groin tear.

16. i have witnessed someone falling through the ice while playing pond hockey. his name is eddie horn.

17. i went to every phantoms home playoff game of the 2005 season and saw the phantoms win the calder cup at the wachovia center.

18. my wife is also a flyers fan and understands the game pretty well. she even played a bit of hockey as a young girl and was obsessed with eric lindros.

19. my younger brother, who now lives in anchorage, has been my hockey partner in crime from the very beginning. he was a goalie like me in his early years, but then switched to center/wing. we would play street hockey in our driveway after school almost every single day.

20. i am thankful that this great sport is a huge part of my life. i still play and love it now just as much as i did when i was a little boy. the lowest lows and the highest highs have come from it. my dream is still to see the flyers win the stanley cup. i was only 3 the last time and didn't even know what hockey was. just once. that's all i ask. then i can die in peace.

the flyers have played at the wachovia center since the 1996-97 season, so yes, the last game i saw at the spectrum was in 1995. i gave up my tickets in '06 because i moved out of the area again, but now i'm back and plan to get at least a partial plan next season.

My greatest NHL Hockey Moments are

1. Needing a ride from Detroit I was picked up by a dude and his hot a$$ girlfriend ... Only to realise it was Kyle Wellwood and he was driving back into Windsor - We smoked some weed and got autograph sticks!

2. Gordie Howe comes to my work all the time (Huge GM supporter) and brings us free stuff!

3. I learned to skate 2 years ago and taught myself goalie through high light reel videos on youtube and now I lead my B/C Division league with a 12-3-1 record... 2.31 GAA and .922 SV% with only one shut out though

4. Witnessing the 5-2 come back this year against New York Rangers -- I was anxious for a goal and when the first one was scored with half of the third left I got excited (Extremely drunk at this point) and than another goal came and as I was going to sit down another goalie went in (toronto was up 3-2 now from John Mitchell) So I got so excited I went to hug my friend and punched a woman in the seat beside him in the face hard accidently trying to wrap my arms around for the hug of excitement ... So As I was apologizing another goal went in and I completely cut my apology off to celebrate..

5. Witnessing Mats Sundin cry at the ACC during his Vancouver game return .. Loudest Ovation ever ....

6. I pissed all over the Owen Sound Attack Bus in 2004 for beating my Generals lol

My team played in an out of town tournament and went out and got blasted the night before. My buddy was probably still hammered in the morning and went out for the warm up without a jersey on and nobody told him. I was quite surprised at how long it took him to realize. Very funny moment.

LOL!! I had a similar experience. I playing in a tournament here in Fort Erie for charity. The group of guys I play pickup with entered to tournament and asked me to play. They also asked another goalie (who's not so good) who's a friend of one of the guys. I played the first 2 games, and it was the first 2 games they won in that tournament in the 7 years they entered. The other guy played the last 2 games (he couldn't play the first 2 games because he's a trucker and is gone all week), but he showed up drunk, he could barely walk. I stood behind the bench and the other team scored on the first 9 shots they took, none of the goals were really good ones. Every time they scored the guys on the bench turned to me and said please go get you stuff on. I didn't want to step on any toes so I refused to do anything unless the guy that organized it said something. Finally after 7 goals on 7 shots in about 10 mins they told me to go get dressed. I made it out for the second period, less about 5 mins. By then it was 9-3. The team lost 10-8. After the game the drunk goalie said he didn't think he did that bad.

1. The first 10 hockey games I went to were either a loss or a tie for my sabres.

2. Despite playing numerous hockey video games NHL 95 is still my favorite hockey game.

3. On the original Xbox I beat my best friend as team Japan while he was team Canada.

4. My worst injury during a hockey game is the classice concussion.

5. Best hockey game that I have attended, 2007 game 2 ECF finals against the Sens. Had no tickets went to the arena just to tailgate, ended up getting tickets game went to a double OT in which the sabs unfortunately lost.

6. Shoe size 11, hockey skate 7.5, yea I like it tight.

7. Favorite hockey number growing up 14, later in changed to 77 after Adam Oates.

8. All time favorite player Pat LalalalalalaFontaine.

9. All time favorite non sab the Mario Lemieux.

10. Favorite hockey name Doug Houda.

11. During the 2007 playoffs I spent more money on scalpped tickets than it would have cost me to have an entire season tickets package.

12. Top three players in my opinion are Bobby Orr, Mario Lemieux, than Wayne Gretzky.

13. My all time best logo the Hartford Whalers.

14. The fans I have the most respect for, believe or not the Flyers.

15. I honestly have no idea how many hockey sweaters I currently have at the moment, I can tell you it is probably too many and that I currently have three active sab sweaters.

16. Currently cannot attend any hockey games do to my work and school schedule....I think this is when we say thank you DVR.

17. Once met Hasek in a parking garage.

18. As a of now anyone who knows me that needs some modern hockey trivia question answered, I am the person called.

19. Most valued hockey memorabilia is my Hasek signed jersey.

20. And unlike most here it seems, I am too young and too poor to have traveled to another city to see a hockey game.

Would have included this earlier but I was at work and didn't have a time to write a novel:

# 21. We played an exhibition game in either Edson or Hinton 2 years ago. And it was the main attraction for that night, the entire town was out for the game. We ended up winning big time. But late in the game one of our best players, but also dumbest, took a run at the other teams captain and injured him and thus started a bench clearing brawl. I had to hang on for dear life in my fight. I probably landed 2 punches total, but they were good punches. Then the fans started getting in fights and the police had to come. I remember one of the dads got challenged by this cocky teenager who wouldn't stop giving it to him. After a while they both fought and the kid got his ass owned. Little did he know that dad was a former amateur college boxing champ. Then most of the parents got in fights too. Coaches had their coach screaming match and bottle toss.

Anyway, after all the mess had cleared, both teams had just enough players to continue to play and finish the game. So after we were all showered up and everything we had to be escorted by the police out of the rink for our safety. We having some pretty mean things yelled at us and coffees/pop/tea/anything thrown at us.

So we finally get out to the bus, and the tires were slashed and the bus had been spray painted. So we were forced to stay overnight in a motel, which we were again escorted to by the police. We were getting phone calls and things all night at the motel and actually had an officer stay up all night at the hotel too "for precautionary reasons". We finally left the next morning after a new bus came to get us.

It was one crazy Thursday.

Most epic game of my life.

I once saw Joshua Jacks from the Might Ducks movies in The Pottery Barn in Santa Monica. I wanted to beat him on the spot for making those stupid movies.

He had a very nice coat on. My wife noticed the coat, not that the dude from Dawsons Creek was wearing it.

1)I began playing hockey when I was 6, I became an goalie when I was eight.

2)I was knocked out by a puck while watching a junior team practise.

3)I worked at a hockey rink when I was 14, got a ride home during a hockey school by Bernie Federko and Dennis Polonich. (had the keys to the rink on holidays when it was closed, I was very popular amoungst my friends)

4)My family was close friends with Brent Fedyks family (part of the Crazy 8's in Philadelphia and he played later with Detroit) My mom embarassed us during a warm up at a game between Edmonton and Detroit when she starting waving to Brent while he was talking to Steve Yzerman.. poor Brent.

5) Always said I would never embarass myself like the countless that show the puck to everyone after getting one during a game... During a game in Edmonton, before the netting became manditory, watched as a puck goes up 15 rows behind me and watched in slow motion (it seemed) as it continued to be fumbled and finally landed on my girlfriends shoulder which I calmly grabbed and procededed to show the 17000 faithful at Northlands Coluseum.

6) Same game, a Craig MacTavish slap shot broke the glass directly in front of us. We were sitting beside the goal judge. He claimed he didn't cheer for anybody.....

7) Seen my first NHL hockey game in the old Winnepeg Arena... Saturday night, Hockey Night in Canada against the Habs.

8) I have seen games as well in Edmonton, Toronto (at the Gardens), Calgary and Vancouver.. I have never been to Montreal for a game..

9) Still play hockey today.....and I am over 29 years old. (give or take 10 or so)

10) I too will not touch the Stanley Cup until I win it... although clearly my chances are running out, although I do think there were 2 scouts at our last beer leaque game or they could have been someone's girlfriends.

11) My winger on my beer leaque team played for the German National Team. Yeah I am a centre now and no longer a goalie. He is magic with the puck, makes you realize the difference between us average Joes and great players.

12) I own 1 jersey and one jersey only........ Le Habitants.

13) My last game in person NHL game was Minnesota and Vancouver last week.

14) Spent an evening with some friends and Tiger Williams. A great engaging personality, especially after a bunch of beers.

15) My favourite ever hockey player was Chris Nilan... He was a very underrated linemate of Gainey and Carbonneau as a shut down guy.

16) I also was a fan of the Leafs until CBC's love affair with them turned me off..

17) I purchased Center Ice Package last year, got it again this year.. The best $200 pucks I have spent since that night in Vegas.....

18) Although I do cheer for the Habs first, I am also a fan of the Flames and Canucks ( I know, and odd combination)

19) John Ferguson Senior once bought me a beer in a Edmonton Pub, was introduced to him by Kurt Keilbach who at the time was the voice of the Winnepeg Jets and a friend of my dads. (he later became the voice of the Phoenix Coyotes when the Jets moved)

20) Looking forward to a Habs Bruins series.. (if the Bruins get that far ) and a Calgary Vancouver series... which should set off some fireworks.. Looks like neither will happen in the first round though.
