So far, he hasn't intimidated anyone. He tries to stick up for teammates but nobody will go with him, and he does not force the issue.

When you play on the fourth line, you better be ready to play at any time, not miss your shift.

I think Carbo will sit him in the press box for a couple of games.

- Apocalypse71

To his defense, carbo replaced him for several shifts on the 4th line prior to that.

There obviously was confusion between him and the coach, or the other player (kovalev took some shifts on the 4th line) supposed to go on the ice. He did not just miss the shift stupidly, these guys are pros

So....you like him then?
I miss Larry.

I went to a game at the forum and he was the 1st star. I must have been 9 or 10 at the time. I ran down to the habs bench just as the game was ending, you could see me running behind the glass as Penney was raising his arms, and as Larry skated off the ice after the star selection I called out him "Great game Larry" he looked at me smiled and handed me his stick. It was very funny to see us in the cab after the game with his stick hanging out the window.

An illusion?

Let me ask you this: who won that game?

your comment was the ineffectiveness of laraque against Lucic. That game he was effective.

BGL gets his face in there, but no one seems to be willing to get into it with him (at least without BGL getting some extra minutes)... at some point the Habs are just gonna have to eat a few instigator penalties and force BGL to be more agressive about using his fists.

When you have a guy like BGL on your team, you have to be prepared to eat those instigators.

Otherwise, there is no point in signing him.

- JDJ

I think that point will come against teams like Boston or Philly, who like to run our guys and then not answer the bell.

Anyone else, as a kid, look up NHL players who shared their birthday (not necessarily same year, just same day)? In my years of watching hockey, I've only come across one who shared my birthday: Mark Recchi.

Definetly one of my coolest childhood memories. I was fortunate enough to grow up next door to Gainey when I was a kid and he was playing for the habs. I got a chance to meet a lot of guys from that era and it's a diffrent league today (even without Avery's crap from yesterday). All the guys were all class, very normal. As a young adult I hung out with some of the Keane, Odelein era players (female friends wink wink) and those guys were total douches. It's unbelieveable as a society how we've allowed these athletes to turn into monsters. I love the illusion that hockey players are still the "good guys". The Canadian media protects them and the american media couldn't careless. That's why we never hear about "bad behaviour"

I have had the chance to meet him a few times, and he is nothing but pure class, genuine, and willing to take a few minutes to talk to a fan.

I have a lot of respect for him.

Friend of mine dated Shayne Corson, who she said was dumb as poop, and he hung out with Lyle a bunch as well. He was a dufus to be sure, but I actually found him to be pretty nice.

there was a game last year against the rangers where bouillon's shot broke up the glass.
A guy and his son ask for 53 000 to the habs organisation for traumatism, subsequent nightmares etc.

And they also lost their lunch due to broken glass lol

This is an actual play in a game, and typical of Cortnall overall.

He took a pass just below the circle in his zone, skated full speed, skated around a few players into the opposition zone. Then winded up for a slapshot, missed the net by 3-4 feet, the puck went all the way down into the Habs zone. Courtnal was the first Habs player back to get the puck, skated up the ice, skated around a few other players into the opposition zone, took a shot and missed th net once again.

I am not joking.

and you guys think Higgins has a problem finding the net....

Basically the guy had front row tickets with his son, for a game on febuary 3rd of last year. Francis Bouillon broke the glass in front of them with strong shot, and he is sueing the Montreal Canadiens for 53 000$ because he and his son are still traumatized by the event, and are still having nightmares at night.

He wasn't the worst in the group. One incident that sticks out in my head is standing around with Keane in a bar and 2 girls beside us are just standing there staring at him and drooling. He turns to them holds out his hand ring side up (the stanley cup one) and says to them. "Hi, I'm Mike Keane" I don't know if he thought they'd kiss his ring or what, but I stood there shocked that it was the best line he could come up with. He couldn't hold their attention for long.

Right - once they have to speak...Courtnall came up from behind one of my close female friends (a friend of the one dating Corson) and grabbed her boobs from the back and wouldn't let go. He had just met her an hour earlier. He figured he was entitled.
