what about standings?
- systemtool

Are the Standings based on goal differential, or points?

Tie-Breaking Procedure

If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order: The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage). The greater number of games won, excluding games won in the Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season. NOTE: In standings a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.

You need to score more goals than the other team to win.

I’m not sure why that needs clarifying.

Well systemfool keeps on bringing up goal differential ........... as if it's the most important stat ......... and it's basically the last tie breaker.

I guess when you won't count what matters (Sens ended up with more points last year) then you make what can count (leafs had a better goal diff.) matter.

So he's in need of clarification on this issue.

settle down doofusgagger.

scoring more than your opponent isnt something i just made up. good teams score more than they allow. still talking about last year i see. i guess when you wont count what matters blah blah blah.

standings and scoreboard. scoreboard. score board. get it? the goal differential is what determines the winner. very contemplated stuff.

just out of curiosity i decided to check how important goal differential is when it comes to winning a cup

year: cup winners reg season goal differential rank

2017: 4th
2016: 2nd
2015: 4th
2014: 7th
2013: 1st
2012: 11th
2011: 2nd (1st place team lost in finals)
2010: 2nd
2009: 9th
2008: 1st
2007: 6th (ottawa 2nd, lost in finals)
2006: 6th

all but 1 cup win since the 2005 lockout went to a team that finished top 10 in goal differential. not a single team with a negative differential won a cup over this period.

it turns out scoring more goals than your opponent is important. who knew

only one team made the playoffs last year with a negative differential. just one. but scoring more than you allow is irrelevant some say.

That’s a skewed stat though, teams that allow more goals than they score don’t tend to make the playoffs.

More important than scoring more goals than you give up.

Leaf fans have been losers for so long they simply accept failure as the primary default options. Losing is what losers do!

No matter who suits up Monday night the outcome matters.

Your just beg whimpy marshmellows if you don't care about the SEns prospects coming back to win from a 3 goal deficit.

Come on guys, you need to grow a set. I am starting to feel sorry for you. Suck it up, a team least pretend that you care.

- spatso

so, what we learned yesterday.

Rookie games don't matter

Exhivtion games don't matter.

Final season rankings don't matter.

Winning playoff rounds don't matter.

So, if your a Leaf fan, how are you going to measure success next season?

Be careful.

- spatso

very careful.

This is why the rest of the league laughs at and ridicules Leaf fans. At least, look at the numbers and game situations. To suggest Liljegren or Dermott played as well as Chabot and Jaros is feeble.

This is why I keep telling you the scoreboard matters. Look at the numbers. The Leaf D was a huge fail on the evening. To say anything else is denial.

Reilly and Hainsey are not a top pairing.

It is fine to say Leaf defense needs some work. Everybody knows it is preseason. But the notion the Lilgegren played as well as Chabot is just plain goofy. Chabot was +3 on the night.

- spatso

this is why i was cheering for the Sens to win the preseason trophy. scoreboard matters.
