i see you raised playoffs and the Leafs having beat the Sens in the early years of the Sens playoff teams.

Yet you waffle on the Sens going to the ECF this year.

That is your comeback?

ROFL The Sens put themselves in a worse position by failing, again.

I think you struggle with facts. Leafs have all the cap space they need.

But I'm sure you're going to post something that ignores LTIR, because you despise being right.

- Feeling Glucky?

Just about everyone that has played with the LTIR formula to try and manage cap has got caught.

Last year Edmonton signed Lucic for 7 years. He is a good short term signing but he is outside the core development profile for the team.

I don't understand the commitment to the old geezers when the Leafs are in need of defence and a real backup goaltender.

I don't think you need to constantly tell us that all the time, it's abundantly clear.

They're all fairly short term deals. No commitments like the Sens have. When you have as much youth as the Leafs you'd understand. And comparing a 7 year deal to a 3 year deal is pretty desperate and a reach. What's important here is unlike Lucic, the vets the Leafs brought in were for depth help. Brilliant move imo.

This is a valid comment. I understand that bringing in the old geezers is taking a shot at winning now. it might work. But it could be a real cap mess if it does not.

Moore - $1m, 1 year

Hainsey - $3m, 2 years

OMGGGGGG. GIVING A BUNCH OF OLD GEEZERS BELOW AVERAGE SALARIES FOR THE SHORT TERM IS GOING TO BE A HUGE MESS!!!!!!

Moore is worth $1m. A really underrated PK man. I'm sorry the Bruins let him go.

I guess we could talk about ...

the Phaneuf, Ryan, Smith, MacArthur contracts,

or losing Methot,

or not being able to give Phaneuf away,

or re-signing Burrows,

or trading Zibibybabyjihad for an older, worse, player

or the Hamburgler

Or how they can't even sell out their arena in the semi-finals

Or how their embarrassing team icon, Crusty the Clown, left the team, again.

or how Dorion is tied for the worst GM in the league

or how their best prospects are either from the worst CHL league, or weren't even as good as Vesey,

or how they have never beaten the Leafs in the playoffs,

or how their franchise has ZERO cups

or the Trojan Man

or how they won the 28th pick this year, while the Leafs got a guy who was consensus top-2 before being sidelined with Mono,

or how their glory run was against half-AHL defenses on Pittsburgh and Boston, No number 1 D on Pitt, Pitt's captain playing with a concussion, Pitt's number 1 goalie missing 1st half of the series

... oh damn, you said "proven false". All these things are true. I guess we can't talk about any of them.

I'm sure you have plenty of examples and won't just go off on a BS tangent now that I'm calling you on it.

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with the current back-up the Leafs have. Hell, if they didn't acquire him when they did, I don't think they would have made the playoffs.

an update? not much has changed. a few short term veterans signings. a couple of young UFA dmen signings of guys that have played in sweden their whole career (an experiment to see of their top euro game translates to the NHL). a decent draft where they picked up what many consider the best dmen in the world outside the NHL.

basically it's gotten even better.

Yes, that is all well and good ........... but you also harped on about the jays and raptors ...... and how you, as a fan, could look forward to a great playoff run by both of these teams ......... or something along those lines.

Yeah. I never denied it. I don't think it will hurt them, but I don't see why it was necessary. Surely he didn't have any other offers anywhere near that.

I don't really care though, as I say, I don't think it will hurt them.

The 3 signings are just plugging holes. I won't say they're great signings, like some will try to claim. I think they're rather insignificant. I would rather they have spent the money they spent on Marleau, on an upgrade at D.

However, if this allows them to (and they actually do) trade Bozak or JVR, for either a dman, or some high picks, then I'm happy with it. (which, of course, I said from the beginning). If they do that, it's actually incredibly shrewd. Until that point though, I think the signings are rather "meh".

I'm not sure what you're point is. The Raptors are among the best in the NBA. The Jays have been among the best in the MLB over the past few years, although, are not having a good year. The Leafs are a favourite in the division, and shaping up to be among the best in the Eastern conference.

The odds on a major sports championship coming to Toronto in the next 5 years is high. I would even say the odds on multiple championships coming to Toronto is reasonably high.

Just that you were gloating on how, as a toronto sports fan, after the leafs were eliminated .......... you were looking forward to a long raptor playoff run, and were also looking forward to a jays run at the World Series ............... but the jays have not been out of last place all season, and the raptors, well they're not going anywhere until Lebron moves to another team, of retires

again, the Jays have been among the best in the MLB the last few years. The Raptors are among the best in the NBA.

You, of all people, as a turds fan, should know that the unlikely can happen. Players can get injured, and weaker teams can move on past them in a playoff series. Is it likely the Raptors beat the Cleveland Lebrons? Not really. But you never know, maybe he sprains an ankle. If that happens, the Raps are among the best in the league. If a garbage team the caliber of the turds can win a series against a couple of beat up teams, then you never know, the Raptors can beat an injury riddled lebrons team in the same manner.

Anyway, you asked for an update. There it is. The Leafs are now a favourite for the division, and will compete for a cup for the next several years. the Raps are a top team in the NBA. The Jays are having a bad year, but have been a top team for a few years, so maybe next year they return.

I know this bothers you, but it's a great time to be a Toronto sports team.

Do you think all those Sens fans who were saving for Redblacks games, instead of going to see the Sens lose, are happy about their choice?

I'm not sure why he's going down that road. Does he think as Toronto sports fans we aren't happy with what's going on?

I think most Leafs fans position that people just keep ignoring for some reason is that we'd prefer 2 years. However, he won't hinder what the long term plan is/was.

People haven't listened to what Leafs fans (on this site) are actually saying about the signing.

Yeah, I just don't get why there is a third year. There is no way he had other 3 year offers.

I also don't like how people are saying he's an easy trade at that price. I think it likely will be easy to trade him, but I don't like the assumption. We may doubt it will be a problem (and it probably won't be). But if it was a 2 year contract, we would be certain of it.

I think it has already been conceded that most Leafs fans would have preferred not to see that 3rd year. The obvious reason is Matthews and Marner have to be on their next contracts that year.

Also, we don't know if there is an agreement in play to retire and agree to have that contract traded in the 3rd year? As fans, I don't think we can count on that. I think we need to assume we are on the hook for all 3 years. It makes Year 1 of Marner and Matthews pretty tight. They will need to have a few entry level contracts on the team to balance that out.

I think the real question should be is ONE questionable contract, and 3 elite talents a worse position that 4 bad contracts, going longer term, and only one elite talent which is going to be tough to sign with those contracts, and some major pieces due raises before then.
