It's not what I said .......... it's what I read in today's paper.......... thought I explained well enough so that even the dumbest leaf fan would understand that.

Clearly not. Not once did you say you got that from the papers, or what paper. All you said was you heard rumors and then proceeded to post nonsensical bullpoop. How am I supposed to know where you got it if you dint say so, saying you heard rumors and then turning around and chastising someone make you look like a goof. Considering you only said you heard rumors and then posted poop that is blatantly false I just suspected you were making up.

Connor Brown is in no-man’s land, contract-wise.

The maple leafs want to re-sign their restricted free agent, but are unable to do so without going over the NHL’s summertime salary cap.

The maple leafs can not match an offer sheet of more than $1.15 million, meaning they are at risk of losing Brown, a 20-goal scorer and one of their impressive rookies from last season.

That’s why trade rumours are swirling around the team. Teams know the leafs are seeking relief from their salary-cap bind, and are targetting some of their veterans. Tyler Bozak’s name has been linked to the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Yes I read the report. Does seem to raise cap management concerns.

It's just amazing ............ you ask a "simple question" and explain that you've heard/read a few rumours .............. you ask for some informed opinions ........ and the trollonto trolls just can't help themselves, and they trash anything you or I post, before they even do any research.

I assumed, being leaf fans, they'd be up to speed on these types of stories/rumours ........... but obviously not, they just want to trash anyone and anything.

Shows their true low level of knowledge ....... and then when confronted with actual stories from a toronto based newspaper ..............

There are, however, questions as to whether the Leafs have the summertime cap space to sign Brown. Teams can exceed the cap by 10 per cent, or to a limit of $82.5 million. The website capfriendly.com dug through the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, determining the Leafs didn’t have enough space to sign Brown to an amount equal to his value — around $3 million US a year — without the Leafs making a trade or two.

A source within the Maple Leafs told the Star the team indeed does have the cap space according to their reading of the collective bargaining agreement, but would not provide specifics. Lamoriello was due to talk Wednesday at the conclusion of the team’s development camp for its top prospects.

Gee was I assuming that newspapers/TV/Radio are only published or broadcast in Ottawa?

Do I have to explain it at a pre-school level for you?

I heard rumours, don't post where there from......

I told you I read it in the paper (no you didn't).

Try doing it at preschool level, maybe you'll see what issue you're having here.

As I said, your rumors you say heard are bogus and bring into question whether you heard them or mad them up. Get it?

And they still haven’t signed Connor Brown for this coming season but it is widely accepted that a trade will take place later in the offseason before they do so (maybe for Tyler Bozak, but also maybe not).

Marleau is, of course, not worth $6.25 million any more. His power play production is declining and while he had plenty of goals at even strength last season (20 of ’em), it was because the Sharks shuffled him down the lineup for much of the season. He only played a little more than 17 minutes a night and if the Leafs try to bump that up again, I don’t care how good his linemates are, he’s gonna be in tough. We just don’t have the evidence that he can handle top competition anymore, and attaching him to, say, Auston Matthews’ wing will be an impediment.

That all changed on Tuesday when James Mirtle of the Athletic wrote that the Leafs actually have space because of the LTIR provision. The confusion in this situation was that the Leafs could not place Nathan Horton and Joffrey Lupul on LTIR until the beginning of the season but Mirtle received clarification on that.

That something is apparently that the Leafs can — and likely already have — use long-term injured reserve space in the summer.

That goes against what we’ve believed possible previously, but NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed to The Athletic on Tuesday afternoon that it was allowed.

“Yes, they can,” Daly said when asked if teams were permitted to access additional cap room in this fashion long before the season started. “Same as in-season.”

Most teams use LTIR on the opening day of the season, as they like to push their roster as close to the cap as possible before going into LTIR. That isn’t a problem for Toronto given how close they are already to the off-season limit.
What this means is that the Leafs should have roughly $5-million left to spend on Brown who should be signed in the $3-million range. Mirtle also mentions that the Leafs would have some flexibility to potentially add a player should the occasion arise.

Dopps, you only care about rumours that are 2weeks old and proven false?

Don't think they're going to be signing anyone anytime soon ............ I'm hearing rumours that the reason they've yet to sign Connor Brown is either because of the obvious Cap issues ........ or, they're planning on trading him for much needed defensive help.

A rumour, I know, but perhaps some of the leaf fans here might be able to elaborate on this issue.

Also heard the leaf had to "settle" on McElhinney as their back up, because he was cheap, and could not lure a better back up, also because of the financial limitations caused by their current cap problems.

The leafs goal tending is another weak spot, on their roster. If Andersen slips in his second year of being a starter, or is out of the line up for an extended period of time, McElhinney may not be able to shoulder the load as well as other options the leafs explored for the back up position, but were unable to sign ............ mainly for cap reasons.

These are rumours, and things I've heard .............. so obviously the trolls will not set the record straight........ because a Sens fan heard them, and commented of them, and not a leaf fan .............. so unleash your insult laden diatribes.

Doppel.

If you think 1 more year of a 36 year old Anderson is in any way better than 4 more years of a much younger Andersen, you have lost your poop.

Yet again, another bad attempt at trying to make a point.

Why is it that this thread has devolved into Sens fans desperately looking for anything negative to give them hope, and miserably failing.

... apparently it is hilarious that some Leafs rookies might struggle in year 2. Clearly, according to Sens fan logic, it would be much to never have very high end rookie talent.

Only after we talk about Matthews and Marner not being able to make an impact at the NHL level.

Then how Matthews reminds us of Yakupov

Then we talk about Shattenkirk

Then Gaborik for Phaneuf.

Then Markov
