Neither did Spatso, apparently. I bet his wife knew how likely it would be though. Just a hunch.

Kind of humour we all appreciate.

Fans of the team with the worst record in the NHL show up and talk about other teams without regard for the speck in the eye of their own team. Perhaps Leaf fans would be wise to check the scoreboard and standings before launching into criticism of other teams. If the Leafs were a really awful team last year that would be one thing. But, it has been 10 years of failure and this year does not look any better.

If the Leafs are following the Oiler rebuild model (which I think they are). The Leafs are in the second year of the rebuild. Oilers are headed into year 7 without having made the playoffs and the Leafs don't have McDavid.

- spatso

Yeah guys. Check the scoreboard and the standings!

Calder favourite? Marner or Matthews?

Man I wish the Leafs had a good rookie like that. Can you imagine!

Leafs fans are just upset that it's a great year for rookies - spatso.

Way to support animal cruelty without even having a roll up the rim cup by quoting that image. I swear, Sens fans have no class. The guy posting the original pic was just trying to point out the douchebaggery of the driver. But leave it to a Sens fan to make fun of the poor animal. This thread sinks any lower and it would be on the same level as Lazar.

Oh silly leaf fans

The only thing you can hang your hat on is that the leafs owners sign players to retirement contracts (Clarkson and Phaneuf) to play like crap when it counts, by sucking millions of dollars out of their fans pockets by charging the highest ticket prices in the NHL.

SO in your silly minds, because the leafs spend tons more cash, than the Senators, to play just enough to finish a little ahead of the Senators, and miss the playoffs again.

the sens have a top 10 prospect group (according to most "experts"), while the leafs group is rated as one of the 5 worst in the NHL.

a single 1st rd pick, in a weak draft, isn't gonna change that one way or the other.

That's something I'd think a delusional leaf fan would believe..............oh wait!

Sports Illustrated puts out an annual list of the NHL's most overrated players, and Phaneuf is either number one or number two.

Objective leaf fans know this, but delusional ones actually believe as you do.

Did you not watch Phaneuf standing in front of his net, when Boston scored the last two goals of the third period in last year, in game 7? He was standing by himself, LOOKING at Chara or Lucic, not checking or tying them up, LOOKING at them.

If that's what passes for "one of the better two way defenseman around" in your eyes, then you're welcome to him.

On Boston's third goal, Dion passes the puck to a Bruin's winger at the side of the net, he passes in back to the point, the shot comes to the leaf's net, Lucic is standing there with Dion standing a few feet away LOOKING at him as he scoops up the rebound and puts it in the net.

On Boston's fourth goal, Chara nudges Dion away from the front of the leaf's net, and he stays away, does a shoulder check and LOOKS at Chara deflecting the point shot into the net.

Those two goals put the game into overtime, and wisely Carlye had the common sense to not use Dion much in the overtime, but that was not enough............the leafs choked away the game mostly because of their timid captain's unwillingness to battle for space in front of his own net, the leafs suffered the worst third period collapse, in a game seven, in Stanley Cup history

IF Dion did his job, the leafs would have easily advanced to the second round last year.

start watching from about the 0755 min mark.

well then, i guess most of the people in the leafs threads must be delusional. i figure at least 80% of them think phaneuf is very overpaid, and of those 80%, at least half want him off the team.

but keep telling yourself he's worth 7 mil until 2021. that's a little less than weber and suter make, the same amount that doughty makes, and more than chara, pietrangelo, keith, mcdonough, girodano, karlsson, subban, OEL, yandle, girardi, etc.

the players who make more, or the same as phaneuf, are LIGHT YEARS better than him. and there isn't a single player on the list that he makes more than, that I, or most NHL GMs, wouldn't take ahead of phaneuf.

jesus, the guy was rated BY HIS PEERS, as the most overrated player in the league.

but, you enjoy him for the next 8 years

certainly not apples and oranges. unless you think weber would have gotten 10 million had he signed this year.

perhaps the RFAs are a little different, but not that different. the really good players are still gonna get paid.

no matter how you slice it, phaneuf is overpaid....in money, and more importantly, in term.

he's one of the 4-5 highest paid d-men in teh league, but is NOWHERE CLOSE to being one of the 4-5 best d-men in teh league. hence, overpaid.

he might eventually be better, but right now it's not close. lazar is a complete player, even the pro toronto media (like o'neill and ward) were praising his game last night. they said nylander has potential and skill, but isn't close to being ready yet. even when he reaches his potential, nylander is unlikely to be anything but a point producer, lacking the "overall game", where lazar has tons of offensive upside to go along with the physicality and 2-way game.

so, i stand by my . he might eventually be better, but right now lazar is clearly the better player.

Kind of funny to hear TSN broadcast crew rave about the complete player that Lazar has become, far beyond what you would expect for his age. And, they talk about Nylanders lack of physical presence to play at the NHL level. Yet, the koolaid brigade proceeds to anoint William as the next coming without regard to just how hard it really is to get to the next step.

A quick look at each players resumes' tell a different story.

One player has gone all the way in the CHL and the Memorial Cup........both the great preperation for the NHL, the other has little playing time in the North American environment

I'm not a big fan of the Ryan trade. Don't like those kind of deals. But it strikes me as entirely bizarre when Leaf fans become sanctimonious over a $7m deal for Ryan. Re ber the Leafs just started a $7m with Phaneuf. Unbelievable.

yes, lazar is poop, he's 2nd in tournament scoring (tied with nylander, with twice as many goals) ONLY because of mcdavid.
