I think Karlsson is a phenomenal talent. Many of us believe he has the talent to take the Senators very deep into the playoffs. You want to think about Phaneuf as the #1D struggling on the Leaf blueline. Sens fans see him playing on a second pairing supporting Ceci.

People talk about what Zibanejad three years out. Sens fans talk about Brassard as a left handed shot that can help Karlsson and Ottawa shooters, especially on power play. Ottawa had 5 players score 20 goals last year. Pageau had 19 and Karlsson had 16. This team can score. The changes this summer are about winning.

How far did all those goals get the team last year?

If only goaltending didn't matter. I can see why you have confidence in Hammond and Anderson. Okay...I can't.

Mrs. Spatso's cousin Eddie is a big Sens fan. But, he is not a big fan of Anderson. Thinks his game fell off last year. I have not seen it. But will watch closely at beginning of season.

Obviously, they were the best Canadian team. But, that is like being the tallest midget. I believe they will move out even farther ahead of other Canadian teams and they will contend in the playoffs.

There are some question marks around the data. In 2010-11
Stamkos had 45 goals including 17 on the power play. In 2011-12 Stamkos had his best NHL season scoring 60 goals but only 12 came on the power play.

I need to be careful because I am sometimes not clear and say things without thinking through the implied meaning that trails the statement. I think the Toronto media is vile and disgusting. They will say or hype any story line as long as it drives their end purpose.

On the other hand, I think Leaf fans are second only to the passionate Canadiens' patriots in team loyalty and, most important, hockey knowledge. Sometimes my irritation with the Toronto media appears to be an impatience with Leaf fans, but that very seldom is really the case.

Yes, yes of course the % is simple. But coaching is highly complex. Stamkos scores 45 goals including 17 on the power play. The following year he scores 60 but only 12 on the power play. Overall team performance also improved in the second year. Explain.

Keep it simple Sens dumped a lot of garbage on the Leafs. They wanted Phaneuf to support Karlsson.

Leafs wanted to move on from Phaneuf and start a new era and they took a lot of garbage from the Sens in order for it to happen.

Both teams seem really happy with their choices.

Leafs are going nowhere, Sens believe they will contend. The only thing that matters is when we start looking at the scoreboard for real in about 10 weeks. Getting your panties in a knot over who won a specific trade tends to be a little bit removed from the scoreboard and the standings.

- spatso

So in your books, "keep it simple" means "ignore the truth"?

But Stamkos going from 45 goals to 60 and at the same time dropping from 17 to 12 goals seems counterintuitive. Curios stat that probably has a good hockey explanation.

Is it the scoreboard measure you find upsetting? I understand that we do not do a lot a scoreboard reference during the summer hockey talk season, but they do matter.

PP sh% and sv% fluctuate a lot
maybe you are wasting time looking at the wrong things trying to come to a conclusion.

Here are the past cup winners and their league Rank PP%
16th
20th
27th
19th
17th
20th

you can try to point to Mr PP Impresario as a way to convince yourself the Sens will improve..but I dont buy it.

There could be lots. I'm not sure why it matters.

Martin St Louis' goals dropped in that very same time frame. Coincidentally, Martin St. Louis' assists increased by similar numbers as Stamkos' goals increased. Stamkos' assists actually dropped a little bit.

Could it possibly be that Stamkos took more of a portion of the shots that season, while St. Louis decided to distribute the puck more often?

Truth is an elusive word and usually the product of someone's perception of reality.

If I say that the truth is clear that Laine is the best prospect drafted...it is only a perceived truth by me. Others have believe a different truth.

I am curios because of the credit being given to Boucher in terms of his ability to obtain great results from his special teams. Not sure the evidence supports the assertions being made.
