"He gave up a lot of homers last year and we think that's atypical with what he does," Amaro said. "He's more of a ground-ball guy. We think that he's going to be better than that, particularly."

Simply put: The Phillies think Roberto Hernandez aka Fausto Carmona will be luckier in 2014.

He allowed 24 home runs on 115 fly balls, which equated to a 20.5 percent rate, according to FanGraphs. That was, by far, the highest home-run-to-fly-ball rate for pitchers with at least 150 innings in 2013. The next closest was Houston's Dallas Keuchel at 17.4 percent. The major-league average was 10.5 percent.

The Phillies and Comcast SportsNet have finalized a contract that will extend their television partnership well beyond 2015, when the previous deal was set to expire, the Daily News has learned. Terms of the new contract are unknown at this point.

A Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia spokesman confirmed the deal but declined to offer terms.

"We're pleased to confirm that NBCUniversal and Comcast SportsNet have signed a new long-term deal with the Philadelphia Phillies that will expand Comcast SportsNet's role as the Phillies' primary TV partner," the spokesman said. "Although the terms of the comprehensive deal are confidential, details surrounding the 2014 schedule of games will be provided in the coming months."

The Phillies previous deal is believed to have paid them a rights fee in the neighborhood of $35 million per season, although the team was also entitled to the advertising revenue from the broadcasts, so it is difficult to judge exactly how much money the club was pocketing each season.

According to two sources, agreed to a massive 25-year contract Thursday worth more than $2.5 billion that will provide Comcast SportsNet with invaluable live summer programming and the Phillies with another substantial revenue source.

The Phillies will acquire an equity stake in Comcast SportsNet, one of the nation's most successful regional sports networks, Montgomery said. The advertising revenue, which was split favorably for the Phillies, will be adjusted in exchange for a higher rights-fee payment. The major financial components of the new deal will activate in 2016, Montgomery said.

The average annual rights fee over the duration of the contract is $100 million, but the annual fee will begin at a smaller number and grow each year, according to a source

chase was on wip this morning and sounded relaxed and was joking around. i didn't hear the whole thing because angelo's voice is like nails on a chalkboard but chase actually seemed to have a personality for the first time that i can remember.

maybe he's poised to have a great year even in the midst of the inevitable 70 win season his teammates will produce.
