Meh, even with marner that could happen.
Other teams are getting better.
They are stuck with AM and Willie....and JT one more year.
Marner isnt worth more than willie.....he will want more (most likely)...so he gets moved.

- Fakepartofme

He 100% absolutely is on so many levels.

I’m not going to argue with you or anyone else about this, but it’s an insane take that needs to be called out.

The Marner bullying/hate is bizarre.

You should go be a fan of the team he gets traded to.

Go be a regular in their thread too.

Hes not on a playoff level.
He had a huge opportunity these playoffs to carry the team. He didnt do much.
So the only insane thing is you still thinking 12m on marner is a good investment

Matthews had just as many goals.

So...

Two guys created an excuse for themselves and missed games, so they get a pass?

No.

Matthews, Marner and Nylander are all important. They all stay.

Tavares is the one to go. End of story.

Uggh I feel you - the fridge game is a (frank)ing racket. Planned obsolescence.

It's the one time I buy an extended warranty b/c I'm so certain the thing will (frank) up within 5 yrs.

Willy 100% deserves more than Marner on so many levels.

I won't argue with you or anyone else about this, but it's an insane and border line obsession with Marner that you have that needs to be called out.

Not sure how this picture of you looking into the mirror ended up online again but it did.

Dubas said the same thing last year and everyone knew a major shake up was coming but he was fired.

- Aaron_85

It sounds like that deal was potentially willie for karlsson.
Very glad it was killed.

Marner is the Leafs highest pts producer in the playoffs during the 16/34 era.

“Huge opportunity” ya Matthews scored one goal and Willy had a headache for 3 games. Samsonov sucked, and somehow they managed to get to a game 7.

This team was never built correctly because Dubas (probably Shanny tbh) didn’t surround this core with the right type of players.

Marners not getting traded, there’s a better chance of Santo learning how to swim.

He was searching for words often.
- Nighthawk

That tends to happen when you already have a good idea what is going to happen, but can't let anything drop. What's he supposed to say?

Tre:"Marner can't cut it playoffs, and makes too much for what he gives, so we're trading him"
Other GM's: We'll give you the contracts of Lecavalier and DiPietro, and a conditional 4th.

I don't know. We've scapegoated a GM, a coach, a top-RW in the league, the goalie, the top-D player on our team and now the president of hockey operations.

It was so much easier when it was all Nylander's fault.

I sincerely don't buy into the "it's all Shanahan's fault" narrative. That said he has to own a large portion of the blame because he controls the strategy. When they decided to fast forward the build and sign Tavares he approved that deal, so he was as much a part of deviating from the strategy as anyone else in the organization.

We need a goalie as our President. Goalies look at the team and know the goalie and defense are important and you still need forwards to score. Forwards look at defensemen as guys who can't score well enough to be forwards, and at goalies as hockey players that can't skate. They're like the drummer of the band - "just sit back there and shut up and do your poop!"

Ken Dryden was pretty good when he was in Leafs management.

I think it really depends on what his asking/perceived contract value is going to be.

When Willy was on a cheap deal, I think his value was much higher than Marner's. Now, I would still give the edge to Willy, because he's a gamer in the playoffs and can score goals, which are valued higher than assists around the league.

They couldn't afford "the right type of players", BECAUSE of what the core made.

It's the core. Not the surrounding cast. Brendan admitted it today. Get with the program.

Its not fair that the Rangers went from Richter - Lundqvist - Shesterkin and I've had to watch Aubin - Toskala - Clemmensen - Pogge - Gerber - Gustavsson - Reimer - Rynnas - Bernier - Sparks - Enroth - Andersen - Campbell - Mrazek - Murray (frank) I hate it here

- Cush29

Now for the sake of discussion.

Do you actually want Tavares on a new contract past this year?

Even if he takes a significan paycut (let's say he agrees to 7M per season), he's a player that's obviously slowing down and isn't going to help you much at 5 on 5, could even be switched to a winger to compensate for his lack of speed.

Is that really how you want to spend that money? Wouldn't the leafs be better off targeting another player instead?

I'm not saying he should leave, he's still a good player. But I think the Leafs definetely need to consider their options with the Snake.

Go check my annual predictions and you'll see I'm usually right. But don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

And if that's the case, he'll retire a loser and the Leafs will be at year 63 since 1967.

Korean (Samsung, LG) appliances have short lives.

At least that's what the guy that came to repair my 15 year old washing machine told me when I considered buying a new one.
