Players are getting a free education
- LFS

It can be argued they are paying for that education with their hockey talent filling arenas that earn money for the respective college.

The point is he wasnt the best player available, he was the best at his position available.
- LFS

That's highly arguable according to what is being written.

Too many picks IMO. Let's get back to the Montreal trade. How about #2 for their #5, one of their top 5 prospects D or F, and Montreal's 2025 1st unprotected? That will most likely be in the top 16, better than this year's 27. Depending on who the prospect is, the Hawks pick the opposite position with #5. So if Beck come back in the trade, draft D1ckinsion/Buium/Parekh, or if a D comes back there is Eiserman/Catton/Lindstrom to choose from.

They go to high school near the junior team they play for. The Oshawa Generals for example Send their team members to a school in Whitby called Henry High. The school has been paired with the Gens for years so they have built accommodations for the kids to practice, games and other issues. For example if the kids had a game a four hour bus ride away the night before the school would accommodate the schedule to allow them to come in later in the day. Conversely the kids may need to stay later in the day. Also the CHL must put aside funds for any CHL alumni to attend a college, university or trade school after their CHL career is completed and if they didn’t make it professionally.

Thanks for the response Paul. Makes sense. I followed the OHL a little this past winter and noticed games are usually scheduled Thursday through Sunday, so that frees up the other days for school.

One of my better trade proposals, if I say so myself.

If memory serves, the Raiders drafted punter Ray Guy in the first round way back when. (23rd in the 1st round in 1973)

But, as always, let's go 'Hawks!

Maybe they NEEDED a punter and they chose the best

Meanwhile out East, it looks like the Hurricanes are going to fall short again this season. They are a good team with a good coach and lot of talent up front and on the blue line, but just can't advance beyond the 2nd round in the playoffs. Granted Pesce is out with an injury which doesn't help. This year, unlike past seasons, they made a big TDL acquistion in Guentzel. He's been a good addition, but still not enough to make it to the top.

I would like to see how hyman plays away fron mcdavid and the german
- LFS

Well, elite players should make players around them better, how did Kurashev do with Bedard? There’s also players that don’t step up their game when playing with higher talent. So bottom line, Hyman deserves credit for the year that he just had.

I dunno. How valuable is it to have a good punter that can pick spots, kick the poop out of the ball and pin teams inside the 20 or 10?

Probably still a 25 and 25 player.

He was scoring at a decent clip in Toronto. Certainly there is some McDavid impact but things like speed, size (he's a bigger guy at 211lbs) and willingness to go hard to the net and fight for position there are pretty translatable to any team with decent skilled players.

15 in 43 his last season in Toronto and 21 in 52 before that. Projects to around 30.

Also helps that he's been healthy the past few years.

I hear you but I think it has to be looked at another way, if CHL players of “tweener” ability flock to the AHL it will impact CHL attendance and will kill some CHL teams potentially putting important feeder leagues in jeopardy. I think the rule allowing players to either play in the NHL or go back to junior is a good compromise for everyone. And as far as Korchinski goes he was good in junior but he wasn’t dominating and while he progressed in the NHL he wasn’t up to NHL standards either. Another season in junior wouldn’t have hurt him.
- paulr

This makes sense as I didn’t think of the consequences of the AHL taking away talented players. There’s always a bigger picture…

I would argue their rules are slowly driving and will eventually drive many of the best players away.

I’ve always believed college is the best route to go but solely for the added benefit of the education. No matter how good a kid is there’s always a chance he doesn’t make it professionally and he will have that education to fall back on. Like you if I had a kid who was that good I’d be steering him to college.
- paulr

They also have the time and resources to build size and speed.

Any of those big ten schools are going to have top notch strength and conditioning programs and I think there is some merit to these kids playing fewer games but having the time to recover and get bigger, stronger and faster.

The NCAA also seems like it does more developing of players where in the CHL they want to win.

I'm just a big freedom of choice kind of guy. If I'm too good to play in jrs, and not quite ready to play in the NHL, I want to freedom to make my own decision on what's best for my development. Not the pockets of CHL teams.

NIL is probably out of control now and may ruin college sports, but I thought it worse how the NCAA and some Universities and coaches were making billions, and the players not getting much.

Notice how the Krzyzewski's and Saban's of world bailed as soon as the playing field became even...........

I'm still trying to figure out why they would be willing to part with Rossi. He's on a sub $1M contract for another year, and productive. Unless the kid is just a wiener, you are just going to have to replace what he brought. I never watched him all that much. Was he just atrocious defensively?

Edit: Looking back, what the heck was the actual advantage of buying out Suter and Parise? They were both still effective (albeit not worth their numbers). The Wild still have basically the same cap hit AND have to replace the players... Am I missing something here?

General Juniors question to anyone out there. How do these young 16 to 18 year olds playing in the OHL, WHL, QMJL get an education? Do they go to a school during the season on days when they're not playing, have tutors, take classes during the summer?
- boilermaker100

They don't.

In addition to the comments on this board and several other Hawks related sites I read, there are some passionate supporters of Demidov and I've seen all kinds of comps and reasons on why he should be the Hawks pick.

So it occurred to me that if there is that much offensive upside to Demidov why would Mike Grier and the Sharks not pick him at #1? I understand Celebrini is the much more rounded player but, if the Sharks are looking to give their fan base someone to get excited to see in person wouldn't the more potentially dynamic player be the one you choose?

Who knows how much pressure (if any) San Jose ownership is putting on Grier to give the team and fans (read $$$) something to look forward to? A quick look shows the SJ average attendance is 13,559 with a capacity of 17,435. Respectable but room to improve.

Yes, things will most likely go according to script and MC goes #1 but, I'm bored working from home and am putting in minimal effort today.

Because Celebrini is still the better player. Yes he plays 200', but he also scores just as much as Demidov against arguably stronger competition (if I am understanding everything that's been said here).

Why is he trading Rossi? What wrong with him? He's on his ELC? The only thing that makes sense to me is they are selling high.

The only player i want from that team is Faber, he would go nicely with this young core but unfortunately that isn't happening.

Okay, now we have Rossi, either Owen Beck or Kaiden Guhle from Montreal, the #5 pick and another 1st rounder from Montreal. GM'ing is easy.
