I’d trade half the prospect pool for an elite talent like Marner.

I think I have a better chance of getting a blowie from Margot Robbie than Marner getting dealt in the division though so why waste my breath ?

Piss poor (peasant) time management and absolutely zero game with women are the proper justifications for not doing your job as a GM.

Swayman was incredible.

But I will enjoy every moment of Treliving trading Marner for a carton of smokes

What would you do? No changes? Is that really an option again?

His entire management philosophy of running a team is how making no moves insures no bad moves are made.

Trade Johnny T.

In fact, The Sabres could acquire him, pay his $11m no problem, but I'd want them to retain $3.5m of it and include Benoit in exchange for Jokiharju.

Johhny's offensive gamed has deteriorated a bit, but still decent enough to help the Sabres at 3C. Especially if Skinner is pushed down to L3. Johnny might be able to keep Skinner's scoring up. In '25-'26 they can decide if they want him back on a significantly reduced short-term contract.

It's not the worst idea, and TO would likely jump at the opportunity...that Benoit is a good acquisition.

I would offer a 2nd round pick for Marner and buyout Skinner. If that doesn't get the deal done then good luck to the Leafs. They're not getting much for an NTC expiring contract

The Leafs need the cap space, he has an NTC (Taylor Hall anyone?) and he's not re-signing there in any case. He's not worth nearly as much as the GTA media would lead you to believe.

B prospect and a 2nd gets it done. If not, well, maybe the 9th time's the charm for the Leafs. Good luck to them

Why would Marner not sign an extension with the Leafs?

If they trade for Tavares after July 1st, his actual salary is all of $910K this upcoming season.

He's also a hell of a faceoff Center.

You think it's become so toxic that the team he loved growing up has become a non-option for his next deal?

I think Matthews, Rielly and Nylander all have long-term futures there and he's the odd-man out. They can say that the kerfuffle on the bench between Willy and Marner was a nothing burger but I think Mitch is gone this summer.

Guess he's almost free in real $ terms, after his bonus is paid. Think the cap is a bit of problem, with no retention. I wouldn't love it, but a free player with a big name could tempt them.

No, I just like to point out how making the wrong move is even worse than doing nothing.

There aren’t additional points awarded for trying.

Are the LA Kings still playing hockey this week if they don’t do the PLD trade ?

Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t make.

Does that mean KAGM should do nothing or am I advocating for him to do nothing ? No.

The Sabres have the flexibility to do what they want, and that is a testament to not doing something stupid.

I’d take a look at Buffalo who dealt two of their Superstars who went on to win Stanley Cups with other organizations and think twice about trading an elite two way winger because of abhorrent depth and a turnstile defence corps

Doubtful, they've overachieved the last couple years in the regular season, no one saw them as a threat in the playoffs

This is what the Leafs should do, but probably won’t due to culture and vibes.

JT is an overpaid depth center at this point

they need to IMO dump a big contract and fix the bottom half of the roster with that cake

my guess is it's easier to slot a winger in the top 6 than a center so bye bye mitch

If you were Toronto, you'd look to Buffalo for advice?

It was a serious question. If you want to keep Marner, what's the plan to address those needs (while spending even more on your top 4 next year)?

I don't care what they do, but something needs to change.

Savoie extended his point streak to 30 games with his assist on the OT winner to force a Game 7 in Saskatoon on Tuesday.

Bandits come back from 3 down on The Rock to win 10-8. Blue Jays blow 2 leads on Fridday and today. Also, the Maple Leafs. Not a good weekend for Toronto Sports.

It's crazy to look at. Every player they have signed for over 2m has an NMC or NTC.

Jeff Marek on Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s contract situation:

“Speaking of netminders the Buffalo Sabres' negotiations with their RFA goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen should be fascinating to follow.

It’s no secret UPL has been miffed at times with how he’s felt skipped over and for good reason.

As the Sabres enter a phase where their big contracts all kick in and they need to watch every dollar closely, let’s see where the decimal point lands for their No. 1 goalie.

I’m guessing somewhere between $4-5 million on a five-year deal. We’ll see.”
