To be fair there's no creativity in the way this team is coached in any facet. The theme seems to be that all problems will be solved if you simply give 110%, and if that doesn't work try 120%.
There needs to be a balance and there is none. - Flyers_01

I too like Fedotov's potential, but agree with others here that they paid a fairly steep price for a "placeholder" as another post quoted. He must have dirty pictures on Briere or something. |

I’m fine with bringing rocky back. In all seriousness I want the futility to continue. If we’re in agreement that torts is the wrong coach for this team right now, we should agree that rocky is the exact right coach for the pp right now.
It’s a potential good sign that they are not worrying much about fixing problems (the right way) that will help them win games now. |

he asked for a name and I provided one. He wanted some kind of proof that that person could do I better job than rocky "PP coach extraordinaire" could do. He could always come out of retirement couldn't he? |

I don't think the issue with butter was paying him. It is all about who's running the show. Is the tail wagging the dog? In butter's case, he along with his agent were going to tell the Flyers when he gets to the roster and where he plays. This is going above the coach. Yes, Torts can be controlling in this area, but having been a coach myself, is very difficult to execute your management strategy when prima donnas want to do their own thing. And in the NHL, the coach is the one who gets fired, not the players. He's not a team guy, just listen to his quotes in the college finals.

It wouldn't make sense if Fedetov plays well and helps solidify the position. Buys time for Ersson and other young goalies to develop? - MJL
If he isn’t NHL quality then it’s going to be the same issue like the 8 game losing streak all season and will have to burry him in the minors the next year just as they paid off Petersen. Could have brought in an experienced backup for the same or less. |

Really? So tell us then, who should be coaching the Power play for the Flyers and what evidence can you provide that would say that person would have any more success than the several coaches before him? - jd250
Listening to Torts the other day one comment stood out about Rocky. He basically said Rocky is a hell of a coach….who thinks outside the box….how about thinking inside that box….maybe just simplifying the thing might be an idea because what ever the (frank) that was is terrible. Get the puck to the net…period. Don’t pass up shots as often as I’ve seen what seems like forever. Have bodies there. They have decent playmakers…they have a few guys that have elite shots.
I say most of this in jest….but the lack of accountability across the board for this one aspect that probably led to not making the playoffs is alarming. |

There are few things wrong in your post. The only thing that Gauthier wanted to control was when he was signed to a contract. The Flyers were colossally stupid not to do that. Once that was done and Gauthier played some games down the stretch to finish the 22/23 season, the Flyers would have complete control on when and where he plays. There is no evidence whatsoever that I'm aware of from his playing time in college that support that Gauthier is not a team player.

Hence my original reply. Maybe, maybe not. There is risk to everything but you're posts suggest that there is no possibility of it having a positive outcome.

It’s easy to scapegoat Rocky for the team failure. Most here agree that the Flyers lack talent.
The Sharks power play was a dismal 14.1% under Rocky in 2020-21. Evander Kane was the only player with 20 goals that season.
The Sharks power play was 19.0% with Rocky in 2021-22. Two players hit the 30 goal mark and one was over 20. No one else on the team had more than 10 goals.
Rocky may not be the greatest PP coach but he’s never had a lot to work with.

proof please...or is this speculation on your side?
They are playing ND period and Poehling 20 minutes a night, throw in Seeler's 20 minutes, Hathaways 18 minutes...yeah no room for an elite prospect. |

He retired back when Fletcher hired Knoblauch to replace him...2017 I believe.
If you had millions, and were retired even for 5 years, would you come back to this gong show to work under Torts? |

Part of being a team player is working with management and the coaches, not just the players. And they recommended another year in college. It's no secret he didn't want to go back. Analysts weighed in and said it was the best thing for him. So who's right?
The points I made are in defense of Flyers' management. I will admit this, despite these circumstances they should have found a way to work it out - Before things got dysfunctional.

Rocky wasn't with the Sharks in 2021-22... remember he stepped down because he couldn't/wouldn't take the Covid vaccine.
So his NHL record is actually:
20-21 14.1 (third worst in the league)
22-23 15.6% (last in the league)
23-24 12.2% (last in the league) |

That is horrendous. But yeah, the Flyers will just have a Koom by Yah with the advisors and get this fixed in the offseason.

The Flyers have six fewer PP goals than any other team under the dynamic offensive duo of Rocky & Torts. We're not talking about just poor performance. We're talking about by far the most inept powerplay in the NHL.
