Ignore the penalty on Pasta . . .
I mean . . .what the Hell are they doing? The lose the draw and the DEFENSEMEN go to the point?! Both Benoit - who lets himself be blocked out - and McCabe go out to the same point leaving Tavares and Marner down low - who were initially going to go do their jobs, until the defense goes out to the point - meanwhile Knies is in no-man's land because (frank)ing Benoit has cut in front of him him to do his job. JT has his man down low, but Marner has lost Pastrnak because that's not actually his guy. His guy is at the point but he gets caught when he realizes that the D aren't doing their jobs - again.
By this time of the year, you should have team trust and know your bloody job and role. If the coaching strategy is to send the defense to the point on a lost draw, then all of the coaches should be fired, rehired and then fired again for good measure. But the fact that by now the team has no idea of who does what is more than just a little disturbing. - Monkeypunk
Kevin Bieska the retired NHL defenseman disagrees with you and clearly said Marner is responsible for Pasta.
He’s right. |

It wasn’t he smartest to even engage (that’s what’s undisciplined about it) but…
Absolutely not a call to make in the playoffs on McCabe. The guy shoves Benoit towards the goalie. McCabe just pushed him with a half ass crosscheck in the back guy flops. He is literally laughing gets power-play. that’s not a call in the playoffs. if it the standard in these playoffs I have no idea what I was watching with no penalties called all last night. |

I think both can be true. Both defenceman abandoned their post while Marner was sleeping on the wing waiting for a breakout pass.
And your goalie isn't playing good enough that he's gonna bail them all out. |

Pasta was his guy. He should’ve been on him.
That pass was mostly luck tho, and a thousand plays happen a game where someone can end up wide open.
Should’ve had him, but not at bad as you and others are going to make it out to be.
Marner ends the game victorious, setting up the gwg.
Edit: I sorta take it back. Pasta wasn’t his guy, but Mitch went above and beyond to try to prevent a goal. |

Marner was in shock watching both Dmen rushing the point. I saw the, “wuh” in his eyes, mesmerized by what he was witnessing. |

It’s tough to do especially in this tight a game and after them scoring a goal last period - but they might need to put Marner with Matthews cause Mitch is generating nothing and JT as well.
Maybe Domi or Bert can get JT going and we have seen how good Marner is when he gets to okay with 34 - Big23Questions
Maybe that’s the move but Marner is paid enough he should carry a line and produce. It’s not like he’s with scrubs.
That being said Marner hasn’t been effective so far in game 1 or tonight but I’m not sure he will help Matthews or that Bert or Domi help JT but maybe?
Domi seems to have a feel for setting up Matthews and I feel like once Matthews gets one he will settle in.
I’m a Marner fan but he seems to really play way too tight when the playoffs start for whatever reason. Nerves, his style I’m not sure but he needs to figure it out. Without Willy they can’t afford to have him not setting guys up or scoring. |

Im not sure any of the forward shuffles make a difference if they can clean it up defensively and get some key saves.
I don't Boston is a team you win any games 7-6. |

Absolutely agree man. It’s such a tough for Keefe here.
Like in game 1 - you need 34 to finish but that line was creating chances and in and around the net. 34 also played well away from puck - but that was it. JT and Mitch need to get friggin going. |
