Why is anyone talking about putting Marner back with Matthews after Matthews had probably the best playoff game as a leaf of his career?
He was all over it offensively and defensively and scored the GWG on elite playmaking winger Max Domi!
Sorry but there should be zero change to line 1 after the fact they had all that success yesterday (3 goals scored, 1 disallowed) and were too much for Boston to handle AT HOME when Boston has last change.
Don't mess with a good thing, Marner is paid to and supposed to be able to elevate any line, elite playmaker that he is why can't he get his line mates going?
If anything and Willy can play fine maybe they can move Mitch to the left side and put him with Willy if absolutely necessary but deviating from what is working after a win to get Marner going seems stupid to me.
Had Marner not had all that success way back with JT people might start to say that
Marner needs Matthews to be successful vs Matthews has proven he does not need Marner to have success.
I don't personally believe it but some might say it.
Imagine the outrage and people losing it in here if this had been some other winger from the Leafs who didn't play game 1 or 2. This simply can't happen in playoff hockey.
It can't. Take a hit to make a play or pull up and throw one but do something other than that bullfighter Ole Mitchy come on bud! - Cush29
Props to Keefe for creating the odd Coyless shift for Auston. Hard to do when you don’t have last change.
And…I said it last night, JT is a (frank)ing warrior. I don’t care that he’s a bit slower. - Woderwick
Man that hit he threw I think in the first after getting hit himself was most excellent. JT is JT. He never has been fast but he's still got skills, talent and hockey IQ. He just can't quite do everything on his own anymore.
I am hoping he signs an extension in the area of 5 million per.

Of course I hope it’s cheaper. He can subsidize that shiny new top defender all on his own. He can hug it, and squeeze it, and love it, and call it his own.

He is so serious all the time. Wonder if he has any sense of humour at all? - Woderwick
Im sure he does.
Hes at work, time for to be serious. It must take extra effort for now to try and be as good as he once was just a few years ago.
As it does with all of us. poop, im in my late 40s i have to do off season training to try and ensure my body is ready and my legs still have their speed for mixed beer league summer soft ball.

Last year of the 7 year deal next year… 50-60P and I’ll be more than happy with him next season - Dozzer
I fully expected this. I recall most knew the final two years he wasnt gonna be an 80pt player or at least match his contract.
Perfectly happy with 50-60pts.

And coupled with solid leadership I can happily live with his contract value for one more year.
The excitement he showed after scoring last night was amazing

It's funny, Willy avoids contact too, but somehow manages to drive the net far more often than Mitch, who's very much an east west shifty playmaker guy. The difference is Willy has an elite shot and Mitch doesn't, so that really limits how dangerous Mitch can be.
What I don't understand is why these guys can't work on their shot all year. It's not really a wear and tear thing, like you can work on power and accuracy all season long and not really beat yourself up doing it. - gravyface
I really wonder with Marner whether this is all a bi-product of him being inside his own head. He clearly attempts to get the puck to Matthews far too much - which is what killed the powerplay last year in the playoffs - and what has made the Matthews & Domi combo so interesting - Domi passes most of the time as well ... but he's better puck retrieval and getting to the dirty areas - which Marner simply doesn't want to do anymore. Early in his career he skated harder and drove the play up the ice - that rarely happens anymore.
If I was in Keefe's shoes I seriously think about putting Marner out there to play against Pasternak as much as possible - and not focus on much else. Give him a simple task AND make it clear that he's not taking a regular shift with Matthews.
it seemed pretty clear to me that Marner wasn't driving the Tavares line - which I think would be better served at this point with Knies & Jarnkrok .. unless someone finds Nylander before game 3.

Definitely think it would help his teammates to show that emotion a bit more.
I think its pretty predictable that the Bruins will try and run the Leafs at the beginning of Game 3... I was really impressed how Tavares, Knies and a bunch of others took hits and respond properly in Game 2.
and a plea to the Toronto talking heads in the media... please have re-runs of the Marchants lame dive on replay 24x7 for the next two days... simply because they always want to call out the Leafs like Domi with the slash in Game 1... for once be "unbiased" and call out the officials for a pretty pathetic miss and Marchant for being the dou__ebag that he continues to be.

My fav part about game 3 is that the leafs get to put their line on the ice after Boston does unlike the first two games. They might try that nonsense but then all Keefe needs to do is throw the 4th line on the ice as a response.

Who knows the rules about changing after an icing?
You cant change after an icing...we all got that. But the Bruins were able to put their goalie back in after they iced it with the goalie pulled. Should have been stuck on the bench. - TincupCanuck
81.4 Line Change on Icing - A team that is in violation of this rule shall not
be permitted to make any player substitutions prior to the ensuing
face-off. However, a team shall be permitted to make a player
substitution to replace a goalkeeper who had been substituted for an
extra attacker, to replace an injured player, or when a penalty has
been assessed which affects the on-ice strength of either team. The
determination of players on ice will be made when the puck leaves the
offending player’s stick.
