Don’t get me wrong I’m not a fan of diving but I am a big fan of winning. If Barzal flopped and the ensuing PP led to the game winning goal I sincerely doubt we’d be talking about the dive.

It’s the playoffs. Doesn’t matter how you win as long as you do. If and when we lose we can pat ourselves on the back for being on the right side of morality. 😂

That's the other side of that saying. "Moral victories are for losers."

But yeah I get being annoyed about it. Shoe on the other foot I would be too.

I don't love everything about the guy, but I do very much agree with Friedman when he talks about calls/non-calls, reviews, etc... and brings up the point "would the league want a team to lose game 7 of the Stanley Cup in overtime on that play?" and I think it would be a brutal look to see one of those calls result in something like that.

What's done is done and I'm very interested to see how they call the game tonight.

Yeah I was ready to throw my remote through the tv don’t get me wrong but it worked out for them. They don’t score that PP goal they may have lost.

Tonight wouldn’t be the game to start diving. I’m sure the Islanders talked to the league and refs after last game. With our luck we’ll lose the game on an unsportsmanlike conduct call. 😂

I think they're just going to have to hope that whatever likely conversation they had with the series supervisor fixes the problem and that the referees tonight are vigilant about it

I fully expect one guy on the Canes will try it, it'll get called and the Isles will score the game winner on it. Rod will then threaten the family of the next guy who gets a diving penalty.

Reffing in the NHL is abysmal, and hits every team eventually. Bottom line is...just like we wouldn't be talking dives if our team did it and got a key goal off of it, we wouldn't be talking much about this one if they just killed the damn penalty and won the game.

Carolina was very beatable the other day and the Isles needed to take advantage of that. I don't know if we'll again see that team play as slow and sloppy as they did in the first two periods. Missed opportunity that puts a lot of pressure on the Isles tonight to even up the series.

I think Brind'amour said it best: You saw one team that has been playing their asses off to get into the playoffs vs a team that hasn't played a truly meaningful game in over a month.

I would expect them to be better tonight, but man did they not look unbeatable Saturday. Andersen obviously made saves when he needed to, but he really looked like he was fighting the puck quite a bit for a lot of the game.

Absolutely. He settled in for the third period, but the first two, he looked shaky. As effective as the Isles were at pushing the pace, they needed to get more traffic in front of him and really make his life miserable on a day where he already didn't look too comfortable.

They had a few real solid scoring chances that they just couldn't put in the net. Overall, I was pretty happy with the way they played. The PP was putrid and they're way too stationary to deal with Carolina's aggressive PK. That's going to have to change, otherwise they can call the Canes for 4,000 diving penalties and it won't ultimately matter.

Yeah Freddie looked like absolute poop in the first at the very least. Pucks were going through him all over the place.

I suspect they'll continue the rotation and have Kochetkov start tonight.

You think they’ll play Kochetkov after the way Anderson played last game? He was shakey in the first but money the 2nd and 3rd and was arguably the reason they won. That is other then the Slavin dive of course.

Yep. They have a plan, and Brind'amour doesn't deviate from that plan unless he has to.

Andersen was coming off of shutouts and two days of rest and Rod still dressed Kochetkov for games instead because it was his turn.

Also, I dunno if you've noticed, but Andersen is kinda injury prone. Best to keep the rotation going.

I don't even think he ever looked "bad", he just looked very unsure of himself for a lot of the game. Still had a couple great saves and ultimately didn't make any costly mistakes, but I just didn't see a ton of confidence there.

I'm actually surprised by the second part, are you really expecting them to alternate?

Probably for the best.

Still don't understand Bortuzzo over Aho. At lease Aho can skate.

That's kind of where I'm at. Neither is good, but Aho brings a little more to the table. I could sort of understand it if the Canes were more physical/dirty but I think Aho would be a marginally better choice.

Stanley cup winner and experience I guess trumps whatever Aho brings and Roy’s eyes if I had to guess.

I would imagine that is the reason. I don't think there's a huge difference (value-wise) between to the two honestly, I'd just give Aho a slight edge because he has some puck-moving value. None of it matters if they can't score more than once a game though.

On the ref topic, how was rempe called for boarding which was super weak but then Lafrenière buried a guys head into the wall and gets possession and they score? Hit was clean but it's the act of being defenseless going into the boards. The first period of the rangers game was just terrible
