It's easy to overreact - but I mean:

2019: Leafs beat Boston 4-1; lose series 4-3
2021: Leafs lose to Montreal 2-1; lose series 4-3
2022: Leafs beat Tampa 5-0; lose series 4-3
2023: Leafs lose to Tampa 7-3; win series 4-2

It's all chaotic. The Leafs have to settle down and just play. As much as some don't want to admit it, missing Nylander does really hurt puck transition. Having Jarnkrok back will ultimately help.

I would very much like to see the D settle back into roles and let the more mobile guys pinch in and let the slower guys who are already stay-at-home guys just stay at home and do their thing.

First period observations:

Leafs don't look good
Benoit looks awful
Lily looks bad (I fully expect a different defence lineup next game)
Matthews needs to be more visible and engaged out there
Pk has been... lucky but have survived so far
Reeves needs to be smarter when looking for hits
Sammy has looked good, so that is reassuring
No Willy changes the dynamic of our lineup and our offensive hasn't had much impact.

It's only period 1 but things need to change quickly.

If it was a one-game elimination you'd be right. As it is it's one game in a best of seven that you'd like to win, but the goal here should be to take at least 1 of 2 in Boston. I don't like how they looked in the opener, but I almost never like how they look in game 1 of the playoffs.

The Leafs can only really beat themselves against this BOS team, which is not very deep at all. Contain Pasta and Richardnose and there's not a whole lot left.

Truly curious to see how this second starts up tbh. My curiousity is if the leafs offence doesn’t get rolling will Keefe be Keefe and start mixing up the lines at this point. Other than that let’s see what the coach says to the boys in the room during this intermission.
