Stonie…
I wonder if you truly are a friend of the Leafs. Your predictions have been leading to disappointment lately, just in time for the playoffs…just in time to negate the quests for 70, and 100, and home ice advantage.
Perhaps you have good intentions, unknowingly aware of the demon spirit of Harold Ballard that has possessed you as it vacationed in Florida over the winter.
What I do fear is that you may be fully aware of the evil power you may harbour in your being. Has this all been a ruse?
Tonight should unveil who (and what) you really are. Tread lightly, my friend…Skalapy can find anyone, anywhere.

Blue and White forever, forever Blue and White.

My loyalties are : 55% Lightning and 50% Leafs because I suck at mathenating.

Throw in 1% for St. Louis because they are my hometown and their colors incorporate Blue and White.

I choose to be optimistic. I know the history. I know what the haters say. They come in here every day and remind us all, whether we want/need to hear it or not. It gets tiresome to hear fans come in and just dump on the team and dump on the players.

These are professional athletes. They want to win. Some more than others, but all of them have a higher bar of compete than any of us do. They are trying, every night. Look at Rielly in the playoffs. That guy stepped the (frank) up and wore his heart on his sleeve. You can't blame the players on the bench because of a couple of bungled plays or missed assignments.

Dump on the coaching. Dump on the GM. Dump on the owners. But for (frank)s sake, stop dumping on the players and dumping on fellow fans.

To repeat something I have heard thrown around many times in this forum by other Leafs fans : this is why we can't have nice things.

Let's hope for the best and see how this plays out. Yeah, I'm an outsider and my team doesn't have the same history, so I can't say certain things about culture without sounding like I am pandering or talking out of my ass. But, I think my history in this forum demonstrates that I am not here to maliciously troll anyone or the Leafs. I troll a little, but it's in good fun I think. I try not to cross lines.

Oh boy she is destined to love the devils lettuce!

Lol

Happy b-day to her!

I’ll pass that along to her, Peggy already chatted with her this morning but we’re doing another chat once she’s done work. She’s living out in Montreal these days (amazing at French, actually spent a couple months in France 3 years ago) so it will take a video chat to see her. I’ll give her til 8 lol

I guess the 10 day fever starts today. We speculate Leafs hockey for 50 weeks of the year, 10 days of ecstasy, then mourning. I'm not sure when the casket for the season gets lowered into the ground this year, but we can all hope for a longer run. It did last almost a month last year. So let the fever begin..........

Just curious, in the minds of the collective Leafs nation, how deep of a run would be required to regain the fans confidence that the team is trending in the right direction?

Nothing short of a Cup would be enough to silence many, but would a losing trip to the Finals (or final four) scratch some of that itch and spark some optimism for next season?

I actually do cheer for the team and have for 60 years. I've seen more Leafs games than most of the folks on here. I go back to the days of Bill Hewitt and Ward Cornell. I've seen hockey progress from the first series I can remember, when Chicago Blackhawks won in 1961. I was almost 5 years old then. I still revel in the 1967 Leafs victory, when the Montreal Canadiens had to take the Stanley Cup out of the Quebec exhibit, at Expo 67, and have it being viewed in the Ontario exhibit. I've seen some good highs, but too many lows and broken promises since the last Championship. I met Harold Ballard once and he was a very ignorant individual. He destroyed 2 generations of Leafs fans with his greed and insanity. The new Corporate Leafs addition are just that. Just give me your money and we'll try to win a few playoff games. That's not good enough.

These are not the words of a fan. Ballard cursed this from you by the looks of things.

Fans cheer and don’t chastise on day one of the playoffs. Let’s see who shows up first, there have been multiple teams whose games step up big time in the post season.

I do have some hope for this team. My thoughts on Treliving have changed. His addition of players with Grit is the most important ingredient for this rendition of the Leafs. Is it enough? Maybe. I am disappointed that he didn't use Nylander as a catalyst in a trade to solidify the back end, mostly on the right side. 8 more years of laisse fair hockey doesn't bode well with that contract. Will he do the same with Marner next year? I'm hoping not, because this team needs to be a North/South style of hockey team and not an East/West. Matthews has already adjusted his game with Domi and Bertuzzi. That's how you win. Right now the Leafs are half of both and not cohesive enough. Next year, I hope that changes.

Nylander gets far too trashed tbh… not every player in the modern league is physical anymore… that game no longer exists.

Marner is over-loved too… he gives up the puck the second worst on the team, only behind Rielly… he’s actually the one not worth what people think he is. Talented as hell? Yup. Also risky as hell? Also yup. People seem to like looking past this basic info in order to maintain their hatred for Nylander who drives the net like crazy but also skates around the offensive zone. Still I’m hoping Marner gets a better overall control and doesn’t give up the puck much in order to use his beauty setups for the shooters. If that happens we will be laughing.

Absolutely. I do think the Leafs have a good shot here but gonna be a tough series they need to play 200' Hockey all 4 lines at all times. Very tough to do in the PO's but the Leafs have some depth.

Just beating Boston would make make me happy. I know, pretty low expectations. But what have seen this team(core) disappoint for so long I just don't see them going that far.

I get to root for the LEAFS first. GO LEAFS!

Tampa doesn't play until tomorrow.

Whether the Lightning beat the Panthers or not, I hope the Bolts will curb-stomp Tkachuk and Bennett.

If the Lightning lose to the Panthers, then at least we will soften them up a bit for the Leafs in the next round.

If the Lightning win, then we'll meet again in the next round and then I'll be in a tough position as a fan - watching two of my teams go against each other. It was hard last year, and it stresses me out thinking about it again.

Giveaways is a very misleading stat, because the less you have the puck, the less opportunity you have to give it away.
