I disagree. Not when the agent is refusing to speak with the team. That is unprofessional and the Flyers had every right to try and talk to the player, who they owned exclusive negotiation rights to. It was Briere and Jones that went to Sweden to try and talk to Gauthier.
- MJL

Cutter told the Flyers he was ready to sign. The Flyers said, “Don’t call us, we’ll call you.” The Flyers called him and he said, “ I’m no longer taking calls from you.” The Flyers used their leverage and Cutter used his. It’s a big dog world Danny and Jonesy but today the chihuahua won.

There is no link. Because Friedman said nothing of the sort.

1. Originally says "Both him and his representatives refused to meet or talk with the Flyers"
2. Multiple people and online sources point out that they in fact did talk.
3. Now suddenly fixates on a meeting in Sweden (how does it matter if they met in Sweden or Timbuctoo or over video as long as they communicated?).
4. Switches to making a claim someone said they didn't meet.
5. Challenged for a link. Points out an article that says nothing remotely of the sort.
6. Will continue arguing till bedtime.
7. Tomorrow is a brand new day. More of the same.
8. Yippee.

- PT21

1) That is incorrect. My statement is that neither Gauthier or his agent were willing to speak with the Flyers after telling them that he didn't want to play for them. Well documented.
2) Multiple sources point out that they were not able to contact Gauthier and his agent after that point. Why would Briere and Jones fly to Sweden if they were able to have communication with the agent after the point of the Gauthier camp telling them he didn't want to play for them? Common sense.
3) Not at all fixated on that. It's simply part of the timeline.
4) Didn't switch to anything. That was my stance the entire conversation. You're not following along.
5) A simple google search will give anyone any of the information required. When it becomes the standard for everyone, then I'll comply
6) I'll continue to take part in the conversation as long as it is ongoing. Which is my prerogative.
7) I'll await you're personal response or focus on an incorrect use of a word as is your M.O.

You're obviously bothered. I can visualize the smoke coming out of your ears.

Well yea, that's basically what happened. The Flyers (frank)ed up by not signing him in March of 23

Dude, when you have professional contractual representation, you meet only via that representation.

Plaintiffs don't show up in the patio of defendants or vice versa and bypass each other's counsel.

Flyers are lucky that CG did not place a restraining order on them, especially if he made it clear that they should talk to his agent (technically an 'advisor', since he was in college) rather than him

- PT21

Dude you can’t be serious. When you have professional contractual representation is that a joke? You’re reaching so far it’s mjl territory. I get totally if cg expressed he did not want any contact and all that but that’s not what happened. Agent said they could try. But he won’t meet with you. And philly tried. And cg refused to meet. That’s far from getting some restraining order scenario.

Also you can’t be that obtuse to ignore fact that all teams regularly meet and stay in touch with players after being drafted. Through not only representatives but gm and coaches regularly go see them from time to time.

Why is not a problem them?

Why is looked down upon if team ISNT very hands on with players after drafted?

What I meant is, any player drafted that high who delays that first pro contract is risking millions. That player could just choose not to go to college and sign that ELC right away.

Remember JVR and how everyone was impatient how long he would stay in college? Homer even said he is not going to interfere with a personal decision of how long he would stay in college.

Well, wasn't JVR "risking millions" by delaying that ELC?

- PT21

Did Jvr stay in college 4 years? Did he say he wants to sign elc and get denied? When did Jvr sign15 years ago? What were the elc rules back then? What were the salaries? Again no player in today’s nhl economic nhl is doing that. Give me one player from say the last 5 years that did? Oh none ? No how many sign as early as possible and burn 1st year? Oh all of them that possibly can?

Surely cg is the exemption

2 discretionary years. During which he risked not earning the 5 million ELC he signed in 2011.

Look, we are going around in circles and feeding each other's worst impulses to get trapped in low stake arguments. I have learned to largely ignore MJL nowdays but you are much more reasonable, so lets just admit we each have had a chance to have our say, not bore the others, and move on. I will leave you the last word.

There is no high end talent in this draft, at least no obvious high end talent. Resigning RP and extending NS had absolutely nothing to do with the Flyers draft position this year.
- jd250

Sure it does the assets gained in moving those players could have been used to move up in the draft or they could have been used in drafting players who may have the possibility to become NHL players - Also using the players all season long stunted the growth of younger players

as usual you are wrong

I’ll define look again so you can understand…. Do you think trade request around Xmas time just happened out of the sky? Look further.

Let me guide you some. Duchene was having contract problems in negotiations for awhile before trade request. That saga went for about 2-3 years should they resign him. Would they. Etc etc etc should he be traded. Etc etc etc. sakic came out multiple time before trade request saying wouldn’t move him in desperate move.

As a protest against the state of this franchise, I propose we unofficially make this Eaglesbuzz and discuss a team much more worth discussing.

If Bill tacitly condones this and gives out 4 year bans for anyone daring to talk about the Flyers, things can progress and be official.

Undoubtedly, the story will get picked up by outside media. There might be daytime discussion about MJL by teams of psychiatrists, memes, MRIs of his brain and who knows, even a book deal.

The NFL draft is 8 days away. I am super excited.

Jvr wasn’t making money by signing elc if still in college. Nor burning years of it…

Also back then it wasn’t a thing to “burn” years like now. They didn’t sign their deals back then until playing pro. No need to really

It’s different now. So you can’t even compare those type players or years

That's a matter of opinion. In my opinion they did. If they had simply signed him in March of 23, he would be Flyers property today and the Flyers would have another potential top player asset.

Duchene signed the then contract in July 2013. That contract ran till 2019. He asked for a trade in 2016 December, right about midway point of a 6 year contract.

There were no problems, contractual or otherwise, in negotiations because there were no negotiations. There was nothing to negotiate. He wanted out because of a lot of non-money reasons.

""It was something I sat on for a long time. I wanted to wait and see how things panned out," Duchene said. "Last year when it happened, it was around the time I saw the writing on the wall in terms of the future of that franchise, in terms of the rest of my contract. We had a horrific year last year, and I could see a rebuild coming. It was something I've been a part of, multiple times, and I just couldn't do it."

Right after drafting, he could have foregone the 2 college years he eventually chose, and turned pro right away. He "risked millions' by deferring his pro status/ELC, and injury, was my point. Just that 2 extra years alone likely means he gave up 10 million odd over the course of his career.

It ain't solely about the money. Caitlin Clark gave up 20 million from Ice Cube to earn $340k in the WNBA over 4 years. Yes, she will make a ton from endorsements, but she would have made that in the 3-on-3 as well.

We have gone through this ad nauseum have we not amigo?

But to recap, I have suggested that sometimes it is prudent to not provide a reason. If his reason is: I see the Flyers in the middle of "nowhere, doing nothing" (quoting an old Traffic song) but I don't want to say so because it will just add more fuel to fire and I want to move on - then it is prudent to not provide a reason.
