Craig Berube. I think he would be like hey let’s practice the defensive zone and a 5 man break out today. Then some work on the PP. we will conclude practice by practicing 3-3. That would be better.

I didn't realize he was out of work. I think he'd be a great fit but, after the Hextall debacle, are Penguins fans going to accept another ex-Flyer in a position of power?

You're right, we aren't getting much back in a Jarry trade.

The team that comes to mind is Edmonton. I don't know how confident they are with Skinner. I know Campbell is done there. Campbell would be a good backup to Ned, letting Blomqvist play in the AHL. Then if Ned gets injured, under Sullivan that always seems to happen, Blomqvist can step in and be the starter. Effectively making him the backup. Campbell the number three.

Of course, Edmonton would have to add to make this a fair deal, since this is a salary dump for them. Maybe they'll add Graves to the deal.

Assuming he didn't put Edmonton his 12-team no trade list, could maybe do it. Neither team has a ton of salary. I was going to say swing for the fences and try to trade for Broberg, but too many NTC/NMC on anything of value on Pittsburgh.

Yes, I was just spit balling. I do think Edmonton is a potential partner. Campbell has a ten team no trade list. I doubt he would veto anything that puts him back in the NHL.

Jarry is from the area, British Columbia, I believe. He played juniors in Edmonton. That doesn't mean he would accept returning. Probably a pretty good chance he wouldn't mind playing closer to home. Another thing no one considers is he has lived in the States for over seven years; therefore, he is eligible for citizenship.

Blues launched him in December or January if I remember.

Hey, he won a Cup as an interim.

Recycling coaches is pretty normal.

Side note: According to capfriendly, eight teams have well over $100M in cap space, with San Jose having $504,240,336 in cap space. Maybe Pittsburgh could help one of them reach the floor.

I always thought he was pretty good. In Philly, he was given a bare bones team and got them into the playoffs before he was unceremoniously fired.

I don’t think the Hextall debacle had anything to do with him playing goalie for the flyers. More to do with him being a bad GM. He and Berube seem like quite different individuals.

He definitely has the clout from his playing days and his Stanley cup ring to come into a lockeroom with Crosby, Malkin ,Letang and presumably Karlson and have their attention. I think he’s an X’s and O’s Type coach which is what this team needs.

I'd approach it from this direction... What has Mike Sullivan and these core players won since 2018? Won one series in 2018. First round exits in 19, 20, 21, 22. Missed playoffs last year and likely this year. If you can't approach your players and show them this trend line, then why bother going down this road with all the old guys. I think an experienced coach could reasonable explain that some changes need to be made. If these players have such a limited ability to self-evaluate, then you might as well get the rebuild started this summer.

I'd be all in on Berube as coach. Has experience. Has a cup.

Recycling coaches is the standard in the NHL. Not sure any other league does it like they do. Change is good as long as the new guy is competent and respected.

Good. I don’t buy the gassed thing. Even on a poopty night he’s still just standing still almost half the game.

I'm never really buying the physically gassed narratives for any of the players especially when people saying they're old so they must be gassed. Their conditioning and cardio are top notch. However, mentally gassed maybe?... When he started the last game it was the longest streak of starts for any goalie in the league this season.

I will also say his numbers/stats dropping are probably directly attributed to the play in front of him dropping as well. The last three games they've been sloppy. The first handful of games of that 7-0-3 run their attention to detail, decision making, puck support and precision was world class.

Berube would be fine actually, I didn't realize he was let go. I also would have no issue with a junior/NCAA coach if there's anyone out there who you think would work.

The reason I asked is that some fans just want "someone else" without anyone else in mind and the fact of the matter is that the grass isn't always greener.

Berube doesn't understand or appreciate the sensuality of the guitar.

Jarry is getting $5.3M, Campbell is getting $5M. Salaries are a wash. As before Edmonton would need to add. They aren't going to give away proven NHLers. Edmonton has as much trouble signing free agents as Pittsburgh does. Well except for Nieto. They will need to add futures, either picks or prospects.

Both Jarry and Ned are good goalies and definitely neither are significant a significant factor in most of the losses this season. Outside of the first line they are actually the team's strongest aspect. Ideally Dubas brings back both next season (resign Ned and don't trade Jarry).

The problem is much more how the team plays in front of them - frequently getting outworked for pucks and being out of position, soft defensive play by some defensemen (e.g. Graves), sloppy and/or high risk play by others (e.g. EK and Letang), and lack of puck retention and control by many on the offense, which puts added strain on the defense.

Basically, the second and third lines and all three defensive pairings are getting outplayed in most games. I don't know what Dubas can do about them but fixing these is much more important than changing goalies.

Agreed not many bad goals if any I can’t really think of any off the top of my head. But even after a goal it’s like it doesn’t phase him. He’s been scored on and then had to make 6 saves directly after and comes up big. Ned would be my guy from here on out. Wouldn’t have pulled him after the shattenkirk goal.
