Buffalo and Ottawa could be interesting as I think there is more of a need to make the playoffs. They could possibly be more willing to move out their 1st rounder. Also Ottawa has Boston's first this year. I get it might not happen but they would be the move I would look to make and try to either get a top defender or maybe someone like Cayden Lindstrom or Sam Deckinson. I have also seen Eisermann dropping in some mocks.

Other then those two, I am not sure I see other teams moving that 1st rounder. But I would be looking to move him. I don't see him as a big part of the move forward because of the deal it is going to take to keep him.

Also could you entice them more if it were Konecny and one of the first rounders this year? I don't like what is going to happen with this Konecny deal moving forward as guys like Farabee and Tippett are tied up long term.

Then next TDL, I think you have the chance to move Laughton and Hathaway.

This roster needs major reshaping and need to purge out players.

i'm not saying Lycksell is going to top out as a 4th liner (not yet at least) but I think a Cates-Poehling-Lycksell line would be interesting.

on a separate note, i also think Tip and Frost are becoming buddies on the ice. and with the commitment to Tippett in place and him seemingly a cheerleader for Frost I don't think the Flyers trading Frost is a given. It shouldn't be at least. I want to see them on the ice together a lot next year.

cates will need a raise after next season. no way to justify giving it unless he has a killer year.

Well for next year they need to move out players.

Atkinson looks done. (1 more year left)
Deslaurier(I just don't want him, 2 more years left)
Ristolianen, there was interest before injury it seem at TDL but not sure now(3 years left)
Johnson(gone)
Staal(gone)
Laughton(could look to move him(2 years left)
Konecny(I think they need to move him, best asset to move and don't want to give big money deal too)

So they have a lot of things they need to deal with. I think there will be a regression next season.

And I do wonder if Torts is the coach next year.

I think depends on if your able to move money out like Laughton. I like Cates as a role player. I wouldn't go big though or long term. He will be 27 for his next deal.

this is pure speculation but cates seems to be the type of guy that will work with DB on a contract and not bend him over a barrel. it's not like he has much leverage.

Again it just depends on money and term. They need to stop this paying term and money on role players.

You need to be able to develop those guys in your system so they are cheap. I had hopes for Allison and Laczynski. Desnoyers struggled this year but can he rebound to a bottom 6 player. What is Toumaala. Is a top 6 winger or maybe a 3rd line winger?

I just don't want to continue this parade of signing role guys to long deals. Unless there is something really good he brings. Elite pk guy or something like that.

he doesnt move the needle. solid player. He will be a RFA so a year deal or maybe 2 is possible. I do not go 5 years like they did with laughton.

Doesn’t move the needle is what the Flyers love. They love players that don’t move the needle. It moves the needle of Keith Jones and Tortorella though.

Barring him punching someone in the face, he's coming back. They owe him $8 million, the fanbase loves him, and he keeps the focus off of DB and Jonesy (the Flyers brand ambassador). Plus, when the wheels do inevitably fall off next year, they will just move him upstairs instead of paying yet another coach not to coach the Flyers.

If DB is smart he should be burning up the liens to Ott, BJ's, Mtl, Ana, see if anyone wants to make a TK deal for there pick.

There is 3 top pairing defensemen available in the top 10 and a couple more that might get there.

Moving Laughton probably will be a TDL move for the 25 draft.

- Flyerloon

I don't see Laughton going to a rebuilding team for the same reason you are trying to move him. He will be 30yrs old in a few weeks, he is signed for 2 more years, he's basically a 40pts guy now, don't see the Flyers getting a top 10 pick for him, better odds moving him to a team looking for a veteran who is in "win now" mode.

2 year deals for guys like this until they blow you away. that goes for everyone. the thing is he's a type of player you need and you'd just go out and get a cates clone anyway. if he fills a role, isn't being overpaid and is already here and knows the guys and the system I don't have a problem with keeping him if it's reasonable. I don't think it necessarily helps have this revolving cast of guys year in and year out to save 500k, especially if you like the player. I do agree with DB in that you're just gonna have to go look for that guy anyway if you do decide to move on from him. cates isn't concerning to me.

agreed. if he has to be apart of a rebuild he's gonna want the flyers. we are likely going to send him to a winner to pay him back for everythings he has done here.

True. I was thinking more along the lines of them hiring a new coach this offseason and firing him less than a year later.

I like his game, used right and healthy, you might get Cates on a deal. For the love of god put him with Tip and Frost

not a bad thought, though the way Forester hounds for pucks and seems to win puck battles I'd love to see a Tippett Frost Forester line for a good stretch. if that is his role on the line (while adding a scoring touch) it might not matter what wing he plays on.

Forester retrieves, hands it off to Frost, Frost dishes to Tippett, (frank)ing Tip BURIES IT and bada bing bada boom (frank)ing top cheds boys lets go

only moved walker because they couldn't extend him, dont forget about that part.

The fact that he did not cave and give him what he wanted plus the standard flyers sweeteners - NMC ,most $$ paid in bonus form, is a plus in my book

Yeah.

I don't role players getting anything in the 4 or 5 range in legnth. Honestly with rebuilding you need to do what you did with walker. Get him in, hope he plays well and send him off for a good asset.

That is my hope with Hathaway at the next TDL. Maybe even Laughton.
