I dont mind the cap hit actually. The % is refelective of a player at that age, that puts up those points. But his overall strength and ability to stay on his feet are sorely lacking.

I think the last 50 games are an indication of what we will see for a good period to come. No doubt he is a good player. Teams will be focused on him and his linemates will also be a big part of it.

If you eat the cap with overpaying him (my opinion) then it leaves less options for who plays beside him. It changes from a Guentzel to a Mikheyev.

One of my favorite teams for cap control is Carolina. They have no problem on moving on from a player or signing a big name. Friedman reported yesterday they are probably going to move on from Pesce and probably trade Necas. Big Balls move and I bet they are still top 10 next year.

I agree, every dollar counts in a cap world. The depth is always effected with the more higher priced contracts you have, ex Leafs. But there is a going rate that has to be paid for a player in a certain bracket.
Loyality to a player can not be a luxury like in the past. Hence you have teams likr the Canes that can turn over their roster and renew the push forward. Drafting and value contracts also are a big part of the equation. As for Pesce, they have the defensive depth and Necas is a soft player that imo Rod the Bod feels that is replaced be Guentzal.

Necas scored 28 the year before and will probably be low 20s this year. I give props to the GM he did also walk from Hamilton and still remained top of the league.

This is an important year for Canucks 12 UFA/RFA this summer so some big decisions have to be made about who and what they can afford. The farm system is not that great, I personally don't want to see Bains PDG Briesbois playing a full year here next year or I would consider that two steps backwards.

This will be PAs hardest year this summer. They are going to have to be super creative.

The Hurricanes are up against the cap like every other good team, I don't think they do anything special except play Brind'Amour's systems well. They flounder away trying to find cheap goaltending and it never works out for them. They signed Kotkaniemi out of spite and then turned around and signed him to a ridiculously bad 5 million a year deal which they are going to have to deal with for another six years. He's been a healthy scratch lately. I'm not saying they're good or bad, they are just no different than every other team, some good, some bad.

When Allvin came he traded away a pending UFA in Horvat that everyone was emotionally attached to, said f**k off, you want too much and made a great trade for Hronek who's been excellent this year. Told Pearson to pack his bag and head to Montreal, bought out OEL because he was a disaster in Vancouver. Traded away Rathbone and Lockwood, he wasn't afraid to bring guys in to see if they fit and then ship them out if they didn't, along with taking out Benning's trash.

For a properly ran organization this is the norm, we just didn't get to see it in Vancouver because it was such a train wreck under Linden and Benning.

It's almost the same for every organization or GM who's reached their pinnacle, they typically exhaust and expend all their resources trying to win the Cup. Look at what's happening in Pittsburgh, they had an excellent run winning three Cups with Crosby and Malkin, they've fired a couple GM's now because they're going to continue going down that rabbit hole hell or high water to chase another Cup. They have nothing for assets and haven't drafted well. They've got a decade to try and recover but at least they found success.

Same with Lombardi in LA, he reached the pinnacle but spent everything trying to get there and then overpaid guys when they got there. He too got fired, just like Mike Gillis did, except Gillis didn't win. Pittsburgh is headed down the Vancouver/Benning path with a bad GM while LA hired smartly and they're turning it around quickly.

You whine about the referee's as much as Vantel does about Pettersson's 13% of the cap contract, I'm embarrassed for you both.

It's unfair of you to generalize like that, HB doesn't represent Canucks nation as a whole, and, there's some solid posters in here. Some have left because of the whiners, but there's still some good posters in here.

Really it's only Vantel, Lordy and Reuby, you're talking the bottom of the gene pool here, LOL....well, Reuby has come around on both Hughes and Pettersson, so good on him for understanding young players need to grow into great players. The talent was always there, they just had to round out their games to be more complete.
