Jonathan Tanner Miller scoring his 100th point of the year is huge, that kid has come a long ways since Tocchet took over the team. When Toc put the lotto line together earlier in the year all three of Miller, Boeser and Pettersson started piling up points. Great season for all three but especially Miller and Boeser with career highs.

And by the way, EP40 had one of his best games of the year, he was involved physically as a net front presence and he played really well at both ends of the ice. Loved his game!!! #playoffs

Good to hear EP is on his way back hopefully and Miller with 100 points twice now is a good thing. Hopefully this comeback win turns them around a bit for the start of PO's.

for some reason people want to compare what players are/will make..

Yes JT Miller is having a slightly better season than Petey and is making less.... but in 3 years, i bet you Petey will be easily out-producing Miller.

Similar thing is happenign with Hronek and Hughes.. Some are suggesting that Hronek cant earn more than Hughes next season. Why not? Hughes signed his contract when he did.. and when it is up, he will get a lot more than what Hronek is going to get this offseason. If both Hughes and Hronek's contracts were up at the same time, then yes, Hronek cannot make more than Hughes..

I think management actually has a plan. People are just used to Benning but in all fairness he made some great moves but also some terrible ones.

I'm happy they actually had a good season and qualified for the playoffs, they haven't made the playoffs but once since 2012, which was 2015, Benning's first year.

They did have the qualifying round thing in 2020 but I don't think they would have made the playoffs that year without that...so it's not a real playoff year for them IMO. It was for the teams that actually qualified for the playoffs, like Tampa, Boston, St. Louis, Colorado, Washington, etc.

- Pacificgem

Hard to say but the rules were fair for all the teams with the play in round then the start of PO's. Took out the cup champs and took Vegas to 7 games. Benning and Green had this club 60 mins away from the conference finals hope RT and JR/PA can get us back to that postion.

Until then...

Benning had 2 or 3 draft picks land in his lap. He was awful in almost every facet.
Don't forget Joulevi & Virtanen.

Think it was Drance that was writing about it the other day, and he had an interesting angle on Kuzy. Basically Tocc's system is about possession and not making high risk plays to get caught on odd man rushes (as the Canucks don't have the most mobile D).. Kuzy makes a lot of high risk plays/passes and wasn't a fit to that kind of thinking, especially when they were entering the offensive zone.
- NewYorkNuck

He’s a very exciting player at times, but he makes some really dumb decisions sometimes. Flames will move him at the trade deadline for hopefully a decent draft pick. I hope the trade works out for the Canucks cause they gave up a lot for just 5 goals.

With the gauntlet of powerhouse teams in the West, unlikely this season. Canucks a little too green.
- Oildrum

All that has transpired this year is a good thing regardless of how mediocre the team has been since TDL/ASB. It's all a process of getting that valuable PO experiences and get further and further in the PO's from this point forward. This will be an excellent learning experience for many of our players. making the PO's and even getting to the 2nd round would be massive.

I wasn’t really meaning Reuby, but I think you missed Nighty, Nutsack and sometimes Darius. It’s really been beaten t o death.

I never ragged on players as much as everyone else does, the team as a whole yes, not individual players.

True. I mocked the JT Miller trade but it looks like a huge success now. I thought Virtanen was an Aquaman influenced pick, but Joe Levy was an absolute brain fart especially with Chucky still on the table.

It's a forest for the trees scenario which you're stuck in. It wasn't a Kuzmenko for Lindholm swap, it was a defensively responsible center with offensive abilities and great on the dot vs a kid who will cost you games in the playoffs because of his lack of defensive awareness. Not to mention Kuzmenko was a cap dump to save 5 million off the books next season.

There was a lot more to it than just scoring goals. Look deeper, they ended up giving up very little when you think outside the box and look at the deal.

Basically they gave up a late first round pick and a "C" prospect for you to take a 5 million dollar cap hit off our books and a defensively inept player for the services of a good center for a few months. Enjoy...son.

I thought the Calgary mayor squashed the deal and the Flames were moving to Quebec City?

I think both pov are true at the same time.
I agree with the above (addition by subtraction essentially), however it is also clear that Lindholm has been a disappointment so far.

You can look at it anyway it makes you feel better but Lindholm has 5 goals and is minus 5. Doesn’t sound like he’s up to par yet. Not a play driver but a great complimentary player, decent playoff player that should help if he gets healthy.
As for a cap dump, Flames have plenty of cap and some GM is going to pay too much for Kuzmenko next tdl.

Can't recall who it was, but someone on the radio yesterday made an interesting observation. Lindholm bet on himself this year and didn't sign a long term contract but held out to maximize free agency. With the year he had both in Calgary and Vancouver, this currently looks like it's going to backfire on him. He will basically now have the playoffs to showcase himself, so he should come back with at least that extra motivation to give it his all. We'll see what happens.

As I just said to dbot, they got him for the playoffs and the playoffs haven't started yet. He's got an injury but he's going to be a key guy come playoff time with faceoffs and being in a shutdown role, if that's what they do with him. They gave up nothing for him when you consider all that was in play.

You can continue to spin it any way you want as well, Allvin and Tocchet made a mistake with his contract and got out from under it, at the same time they got a good center for the playoffs....we'll see how it plays out. He's been bad offensively, but hopefully that comes for when they really got him for. #playoffs
