That’s the worst non-call in the history of hockey.

Two minutes.

Not four.

But two for sure.

Isn’t that the catch? The penguins could only challenge a 4 minute penalty not the 2 minute one? Honest question, I don’t know.

Partial breakaways.. and one drawing a penalty.

Have you scored on any breakaways today?

No?

The refs themselves may perform a review if the high sticking call is greater than 2 minutes. So if they call a 4 minute and have any doubts, they can review it and ensure it's actually a double-minor. They have done this before in cases where they weren't sure if it was a penalty or not. It allows them to reduce penalties to 2 minutes from 4, or to no minutes if it was deemed it wasn't a high stick (own team, own stick, embellishment, etc.).

I’m just surprised you aren’t blaming a certain man in Ottawa.

Agree penalty for sure, worst non-call in history? No (frank)ing way. Also think the Leafs could have had a few power plays this game that were non-calls due to diplomatic immunity. Pens basically had to hook a player on a clean breakaway to get a penalty.

Puck insulated the stick.

So honestly, I don’t know if this is correct or not.

I suspect it isn’t, or you could hold your glove in front of a guy’s face and then knock his teeth out with your stick.

But I suspect this is a case where the rulebook doesn’t actually say what the call should be.

It should be a penalty - making an exception for this introduces an exception that puts players at risk.

I think it should have been a penalty too, just so players do not start doing that all the time. However, the last angle I saw I thought the follow through could have hit in the front of the shoulder.

If the stick hits the face, yeah . . . if it doesn't you have several questions: Was the swing pulled (meaning would the stick have still hit the face if the puck wasn't there or was it like a bunted swing?) and to your point - what was the angle of the swing? It seems to me that if your puck is making contact with the puck that closely to his face, the odds are your stick would, too, on the follow through . . .

I don't know earlier this year I saw an Oiler game where a guy got high sticked by someone swinging at the puck and the refs ruled that the contact to the face was from a follow-through on the swing - but the swing itself was over the shoulder, so I couldn't understand how it was not a penalty.

I haven’t been watching closely, so here is the big post-renovation question:

Does Geddy Lee still have sweet seats behind home plate?
