Just a wave of impulsiveness, desire for instant gratification and no attention spans will be the recipe for this regression - mr.peanut
the US are somewhat slowing down that regression by banning Tiktok, I wonder if Canada will eventually follow suit, although I'm thinking there would surely be another similar app that would become popular and fill the void for those kids trying to figure out what to do with their brain cells.

Instagram reels and YouTube shorts are already alternatives to tiktok. Really, the phones are the issue. You want to give your kid a phone at 11, 12, 13? Guess what, that's all they'll care about |

yeah but I think the way Tiktok works it's particularly bad, even more so than youtube and instagram.
a perfect yet sad recent example, this tiktok "superstar" from Texas who died while dancing on top of a moving truck.

Many do believe tiktok is intentionally feeding harmful content to children. Hell, in China, it's only showing informational, educational and inspirational videos. Along with that if you're under 18 you can only be on it for an hour a day total while not allowing you on it after like 8PM |

yeah well they're a country known for meticulously filtering the information that the population has access to, whatever content that either criticizes the government or doesn't fit with their values and principles is automatically blocked. |

Yep, but it must be nice for kids to watch math videos on how to prepare for a test rather than students practicing tiktok dances in a hallway instead of studying for their math test. |

Considering it's societal harm, social media probably should be regulated like cigs, alcohol, gambling and drugs |

yeah but censorship is a slippery slope, deciding what is acceptable and what is inadmissible isn't such a straight forward task.
ideally, parents should be able to support their kids with how they handle social media and help them develop their own judgement.

I don't think it's censorship to limit youth screen time. An app promoting the consuming of tide pods probably isn't something that needs to be available in the "marketplace of ideas." Especially when most of the social media harm is with children. We did ban flavored vapes because they are apparently appealing to children (of course, so can certain alcohol bottles and energy drinks).
Put yes, we do know how governments may exploit any social media regulation |

I understand but I still feel that should be the parents' responsibility, not the state's.

yes!
now you can ironically sell concert tickets at a very high price that a huge portion of the fanbase can't afford, along with expensive communist merch.

oh I know, some are doing a horrible job, or are even literally doing the opposite of what they should be doing.
it ain't easy. it takes a license to drive a car or to go fishing, but anyone can have kids.
